    Low capacitance meter suggestion

I'm looking for a low capacitance meter specifically for measuring, film, ceramic, smd capacitors, etc.

What would he recommended as a good quality meter?
What's a cheap meter that would be good enough to work?

    Re: Low capacitance meter suggestion

check out the peak atlas range, there esr meter is great,if you want to measure in the pf/nf range, then there lcr meter is good for that(just for measuring the capacitance not the esr).
fixed so far...376 lg lcd tv's,24 onn tv;s,24 panasonic lcd,16 jvc lcd,12 marshall jcm800 amps, refurb of various disco equipment lighting, old style disco decks ,and a flymo!

Hm the lcr meter is a bit pricey, I just recently bought the peak atlas esr70 for 135$. Unfortunately it doesn't measure lower valued caps.

I got the peak lcr meter... really like it. Got it NOS off ebay for $80.

Well, just lost my chance at a peak LCR 40 on ebay. Someone happened to have the same exact winning bid as me of 83$ (11$ shipping) but I placed mine in the last 5 seconds as the winning bid placed it a minute before mine. =/ Was hoping to get it for about 60$ but eh, oh well at least I didn't spend about 100$ for a used one =)

So still looking for a capacitance meter. Specifically one that is able to measure down to about 1 pF.

Looking around ebay I found this: anybody know anything about it?

DM4070 - I bought one of those about 3 years ago, when I was taking some community college electronics courses. The most annoying thing is that it only measures up to 2000uF capacitance, I would look for a 20,000uF range if I was shopping for a another meter today. The resistance ranges seems seem spot on when measuring some precision resisters and brand new caps measure close to their rated values, so I have no complaints about it's performance. (but I'm far from an expert).

The feel of the meter is Ok, not horrible but not great either. The blatant Fluke copy-cat appearance tends to annoy me quite a bit.

EDMI ATLAS MK10 Electronic Meter Discussion
              by Stephan Mathers
Greetings, new guy here but always interested in the crazy universe of modding

We just finished construction of around 25 vacation houses, all inside the same private area.
Each house has 3phase power , and we bought an atlas MK10 meter for each house (25 meters total ! )

The metering on a per-house basis is done privately. Its not done by a utility company. The utility company will only charge us for the total consumption of all 25 houses together.

Id like to do a small modification on the firmware of our MK10 to make it easier identify each house's...

Measuring ESR in-circuit: LCR or ESR meter
              by Rado108
Hello. Which tool is better for in-circuit testing of e-caps? I was thinking about getting proper LCR meter like DER DE5000 but as i have seen more accurate are ESR meters like ESR70 from Peak if we are measuring in-circuit. Is that true?
Sometimes ESR can not be accurate when in-circuit but still want to get the best tool for it.

Modification of a Fluke multi meter that uses three AA batteries to use a 14500 lithium ion battery
              by sam_sam_sam
I have had with regular AA batteries that leak this meter is expensive new I already replaced the battery battery clips once and the same thing happened again and I am tried of so it is getting modified to accommodate lithium ion batteries that are the same size excluding the positive terminal and removing the battery clips I will have enough room for the BMS protection board

I going to put 3 lithium ion battery in parallel with the BMS protection board and a way to charge the battery externally and heat shrink the battery pack and use a JST connector so I easily remove the battery...

              M1 MacBook Pro 2021 A2485 - No backlight display
              by rcanpolat
              Hi all,

I recently got my hands on an M1 MacBook Pro (2021, A2485) that I suspect suffered some liquid damage. I have a hot air station and the basic tools to work on the board, but I’m new to SMD repair and would love some guidance before diving in.

Here’s what I’ve observed so far:
              • When I power it on, I hear the MacBook chime and, with a flashlight, I can see the Apple logo on the screen. However, it never completes the boot and eventually powers off. My plan is to try to get the display fully working first, then tackle the boot issue.
              • I did some basic resistor
              ...

Changing the scale of an analog meter
              by jorpec
              Hi

I want to change the scale of an analog meter, to monitor the charge of an li-ion single cell, so the needle at the end would point 4.2 volts and the 0 on the meter would point 2.5 volts or so, i tried to add diodes or a zener in series with the meter but the changes of the ambient temperature also changes the voltage value on the meter
I wonder how i can accomplish this so the meter would be precise at any temperature ?

              Thnaks
