Yeah well you said it, I am aware of these and the hundreds of clones of these things which have been around for a good decade if not longer. And not at all what I am looking for, currently until I can find something more suitable I will stick with my current testing method.

if you have to pull one out to test it best replace with new .if project fails they arent too difficult to remove and throw into the box with the rest of the new pulls .

Your probably right there, most of the component pulls I make when servicing and repairing electronics are already known to me as bad. This is probably why I have yet to obtain a decent LCR / ESR tester, anything I do need to test more thoroughly I use a scope and function generator to do so. I was given a Peak Atlas component tester but despite it being an expensive one I dont think it does ESR.

the peak does do esr - if it's the one for caps.
what it wont show, unlike the chinese testers is leakage.

How To Test a P-channel Trench Mosfet Using A Multimeter In Diode Mode
            by dj8452000
I am new to electronics and I'm understanding most of what I'm reading but I have a mosfet on my board that I've identified as a P-channel Trench Mosfet. I haven't a clue how to test this and what I should expect to see with the multimeter probes. I am hoping someone with years more experience than myself can help me understand how to use a multimeter to read this. Please look at the drawing I have attached to this and can you try to explain to me what I should be doing with my multimeter in diode mode and what results I should expect from a good mosfet?...

How to test Subwoofer Amplifier with only a multimeter
            by jinu_j
            Hi Folks

Need some advice on how to test a subwoofer amplifier if i have access to only a multimeter.

            Problem
I have a Boston Acoustics active Subwoofer (soundware S). Its rated output is 200W. But the output i am getting is very low i can barely hear/feel it even if put the gain at max. I replaced all the capacitors in the Subwoofer amplifier but still no change.

Is there anyway to test this without getting an oscilloscope/Function generator to see if the fault is with amplifier, driver or the source??

            Any advice would be appreciated...

How can I test non-polarized capacitor?
            by chth96
I desoldered samwha NF capacitor(50v 5.6uf) from PCB circuit of 29inch CRT TV which have symptoms of no display after I heard sound of inrush of current to TV whenever I switch on this television.
I measured ESR value of this non-polarized capacitor(samwha NF capacitor 50v 5.6uf) by means of MESR-100 ESR meter and It displayed 0.3 ohm

And When I measured its capacitance with digital multimeter and LCR-T4 Mega328 meter, It displayed 10uf from DMM and 8uf from LCR-T4 meter.
I found catalogue of samwha capacitor(samwha-catalogue_3.pdf file), which is attached to this thread,...

How Can I test PWM DM0365R?
            by chth96
            Hello
I have power adaptor(220V/input, 12V 1.2A/output) which has symptom of fluctuating output DC voltage between 11.5V-12.2V.
So I opened its plastic case and when switched it on, I heard constant tik tik sound from inside its PCB.
I measured DC voltage between negative and positive pin of the largest capacitor(400v 10uf) and it was measured contant 300V.
I also measured ESR value of all capacitors and I noticed that one of capacitor(KMG 16v 470uf), which located in the secondary side, have high ESR value(10 ohm),So I replaced it with same specification NXH capacitor....

Radio Shack Digital Multimeter Cat # 22-811
            by CapSnap123
I'm trying to fix a digital multimeter. It was working until I blew the fuse (actually the "buzz" for continuity wasn't working). I've now replaced the fuse but it's acting strangely. When I turn the dial to V, nothing happens. But when I turn to anything else, it makes a continuous, very fast clicking sound - like the piezo buzzer is trying to do something. And at each position of the dial (other than V) there are brief flashes of life on the LCD. It doesn't seem to matter if the probes are connected. I wasn't sure where to start, so I've tested most of the diodes and cleaned the...
