    Antec AR300 or AR350 to repair or replace

    Hi
    I have a dead antec AR300 from an Antec Aria case. Tried it with few motherboards, but its no go. Im planning to get an PSU tester in couple of days to check what exactly is dead in it.

    My quickest option would be to buy a replacement, but considering I have almost no budget to cover this I am going to try and fix it. Hopefully with your help
    If it's not fixable perhaps someone recommends a similar PSU with a decent price tag. These seems to be unique PSUs unfortunately with weird dimensions. We're talking (WxLxH) 15x8x13 cm but since it's L shape, the length has dimensions of 4.5cm and 8cm and the height has 13 and 9.5cm.
    And the power socket is actually outside its box, has 3 cables that come with it to an external socket.
    Perhaps picture can explain more.

      Welcome to the Forum!

      I had one of those Aria systems once. I never did take the PSU apart on mine.

      The Power Supply is completely Proprietary and unique to the Aria / NSK1300. You will probably not be able to find a similar one from anywhere but Antec. If it's still under Warranty, contact Antec. Do NOT open the PSU or damage the warranty sticker.

      If it's NOT under Warranty.....
      Your chances of repair aren't impossible.
      "PSU Testers" won't tell you much of anything. They are usually just a set of voltage indicators, which won't tell you anything at all about Voltage Ripple, Current capability or most especially, what might be wrong.
      The disassembly and soldering is relatively simple in a PSU. The boards are usually single-sided and easy to service. (compared to a multi-layered Motherboard for example)

      It is probably loaded with bad caps, probably purple ones from a company called "Fuhjyyu".

      Usually, bad caps won't prevent the PSU from starting, but it is possible, especially if small ones on the 5V standby circuit have failed.
      Also, the fuse might have blown. Of course many other things could have broken as well. You are going to have to find out.

      So, you're going to have to open it up and look inside. Probably you'll see a bunch of purple and white capacitors with the tops all bulged and split, maybe leaking out a little brown gunk.

      Fortunately, BadCaps.net can sell you appropriate capacitors to replace them with but you will need a list. I recommend replacing all of the caps except for the really large "Primary" caps. You are interested in the following for your shopping list:
      Capacitance, usually in uF (MicroFarads)
      Voltage, in V (Volts)
      Capacitor Brand and Series ex: Fuhjyyu TM
      Temperature in Celsius (usually 105C)
      Diameter in mm (usually 10mm or 8mm in Antecs)

      A common capacitor in an Antec PSU would be: Fuhjyyu TM 3300uF/16v 105C., 10mmx30mm. This is a supposedly "Low ESR" cap of atrocious quality. Badcaps offers the Samxon RS 3300/16 in 10mm which would be a suitable replacement.

      PS. You might want to consider replacing the Aria and its proprietary PSU with a more conventional MATX case with a standard ATX PSU.

          I was that close to buy a Aria case few years ago. But I chickened out when I saw how odd this PSU is and no room for tall heatsink under that.

              good advice.
              see if antec will rma it.
              iirc those things blow up grandly when they fail.
              more than just caps.
              does it pass the sniff test?

                  to be honest guys I am new to all this.
                  It was unfortunately a second hand one and the guy before me apparently open the PSU and fiddled with it. Nowonder its dead.
                  The board is rammed with all kind of fuses and caps. I am not quiet sure I can play with it.

                  I am trying to find a cheap PSU with same dimensions or close enough to fit in this box. So far I found one on ebay

                  I might be able to get it fixed in the back where the old one was.
                  It will be less work for sure. A hassle? maybe.

                      When I tried to repair LG 29 inch CRT TV, I found that the ESR value of samyoung SMS capacitor(160v 2.2uf), which is very close to D1879 transistor, is 6 ohm.


                      Judging from above ESR Meter Table,I think It is necessary to replace this sms capacitor.So I visited local electronics shop,and I purchased 160v 2.2uf rubycon YK capacitor.

                      I've just been repairing some (very) old speakers with a loud hum that occurred as soon as you powered them on regardless if any actual audio is played through them. I work in a School so it's 99% likey that the Teachers have hardly ever turned the power off on them for well over 10+ years.



                      As you can see the top large capacitor on the right has a bulge on the top so defincately needs replacing. As the one next to it is exactly the same capacity and voltage I planned to replace them both.


                      What is your advice/opinion on whether or not on old(er)...

                      I have purchased an 100-240v AC/5v 2a DC adaptor from aliexpress,and a month ago It smelled burning when I plugin it powerstrip.
                      Since then, This AC/DC adaptor have been out of order.
                      But A few days ago,I replace 0.5 watt resistor with 1 watt resistor(1ohm) in this adapter.
                      After replacing resistor,It succeed to recharge all of android phone.And When I measure voltage on the two pins of USB port,It shows 5.5v
                      Is it okay to replace 1/2 watt resistor with 1 watt resistor in AC/DC adapter?
                      And Is there any possibility that it will suddenly explode as well as to be out...

                      I have a Samsung U32D970 monitor from 2015 I pulled out of the bad hardware pile that turned on and then turned itself back off after a few minutes of use and refused to turn back on.                       i have a hp display 2311 to repair, totaly dead
                      on the board, il have 2 capacitor 470µf that are dead and the 3.3v regulator : ax6630-33
                      i have no such regulator, can i replace this one with a mic5209-33 (3.3v outpout regulator too) ?
