    LG Plasma 60pn6500-UA red screen

    Hello,

I have an plasma LG 60pn6500-UA manufactured in 2/13. A few weeks ago I started notice a slight red distortion coming and going on peoples faces and other lighter scenes. The other night the screen became virtually unwatchable with red distortions on all dark areas as well. I've checked on all other ports and menu screens and the problem exists. (I did find the HDMI2 does not work. )I have also reseated all connections and checked the solders on the x and and y sus for cracks and all looked good. Since the HDMI 2 port does not work I am wondering if this is an main board issue or if there is something else I should check before potentially wasting money swapping out boards. I have attached some pictures of the screen below. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Jump the 2 holes marked ext_auto_gen on the 'control board'

Disconnect the LVDS cable that connnects the control board to the Main AV board.

You should get test patterns, are they affected? If they are the main board is not your problem....

I doubt that the mainboard is causing this, more likely the control board or the sustain boards. But do this test first as it will eliminate the very slight possibility to the main board .

Re: LG Plasma 60pn6500-UA red screen

I just performed the test you suggested and all test patterns displayed clearly with no red or blur. Then for the hell of it I ran the same test with LVDS attached to the connected and that performed clearly as well. Does the ext auto gen just bypass the main AV board? When I removed the jumper with LVDS connect I got a red screen (normally black) with the no signal message.

If I'm understanding the test you had me run I think this means the main board is bad?? is that a correct assumption?

Yes you have a faulty main board.
Try heating it up with a hair dryer and see if the picture goes back to normal.

Try reseating the LVDS cable which runs between the main board and control board. If it is loose, you might see this symptom.

I had tried that prior to posting on here and saw no improvement. I will try it again tonight.

On a side note I've been doing some research in the event I need to replace the board. It does not seem to be as readily available as the other boards. This leads me to believe the boards with part number EBT62394201 and board number EAX65071307(1.1) may have had a manufacturing defect of some sort since no one can seem to keep them in stock. Some of the websites I have looked at list substitute parts. Is there any way knowing for sure what if any substitute parts will work?

I re seated the LVDS on both the control board and main board and did not see any improvement.

                      Hi Bob,

Did you ever find a replacement board? I'm trying to track one down for the same model/version.

                      Peace,

Below is a link to the one that I bought. It is listed a replacement for the original board. So far I have not had any issues. The new part number is EBT62753601. hope this helps

Brilliant! Thanks so much for that info.

There seems to be a lot of misinformation about part number compatibility/valid substitutions at the various online parts retailers.

I'm willing to give this one a shot since it worked for you.

At the same time I'm investigating the possibility of repairing my board... details here:

I had the same tv with a different problem but still it was the main board. I couldn't find one anywhere. So I took a chance and tried one from a 50pn6500 and it worked. Just dropped it in and that was it.

Mine was a different issue as well but same tv mine would go black screen after watching for five minutes then turn it off for twenty minutes and it would go black screen after 15 minutes then turn off for a few hours and it would last a couple hours, but i went through all the bull crap with out of warranty with LG and they gave me the option of paying for an upfront out of warranty repair that covers any part and any labour for a flat rate of 180.00 plus tax. So after hauling it to the next town the repair place guy said it was my main board and gave me the part number.

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

                                        Hello,

Stopped by this site trying to fix my parents Panasonic Plasma TV.

                                        Model number is TH-50PZ85U

Power comes on and the red power light stays on solid.

Did a few checks like hold the power button on for 60 seconds, hold the - Volume while holding the menu button, no luck, still@ blank grey screen as the screen lights up very vague.

I also hear a few clicks.

I also think my parents said there was a thunderstorm and the TV failed after that.

Section 6 in the service manual talks about power and no screen,...
