    A quick ccfl question

Hello, I've stripped down a 23" monitor as i suspected the top ccfl had a problem.

Yes it does. I have a new replacement ccfl but as you can see the end cap has burnt and cracked and is no longer usable.

My question, can i use hot glue after i have soldered a new wire on the end, has anyone done this or should i order some new caps for the end ?

Hot glue will not handle the heat, I would use the RTV Silicone.

      Re: A quick ccfl question

My only concern would be the tube getting hot enough to compromise the hot glue. RTV might be a better choice.

BTW that end cap is made from silicone.

Yeah, it's not the best photo but the cap is brittle and in several pieces due to the arcing.

I'd use white or clear RTV instead of black. If a bad connection or something develops such as an arcing problem later on the black is going to make it harder to see.

A good point SteveNielsen, I ended up going to a local Halfords (motor spares etc) where I got some clear instant gasket. Rated to 250c. The monitor is back together and seems ok so far. No flickering or bad smells.

Thanks, it's the second 23" screen I've fixed. Both a Sony i have and this NEC both used identical 23" LG panels (LM230WF1). Both with almost identical issues in the same place.
For future searchers of this forum I got my CCFL from here.
