    making ethernet panels

sooo, i've done networking for god knows how long, I make my own cables and the easy shit that anybody can do, but i've never made panel drops, which I will be doing tomorrow for a local business, and I would like to come in there seeming semi-competent, or at least give them the impression this isn't the first time i've done this

I know about the keystone jacks and the punch down tools, etc, etc, but making the actual holes in their sheetrock and making a solid panel, is something I've tried doing research on but from what I can tell I need a full enclosure?

help me here, i'll give you candy

Err... a little late to be doing research if you have to do this TOMORROW, no?

Are you talking about the actual jacks at the desk end, or a patch panel in a closet somewhere?

Running cables in finished walls is no fun, especially if they're insulated.
    Ludicrous gibs!

      Re: making ethernet panels

I just got done doing that a few weeks ago in my building and house. It's a piece of cake. If you can make the cables and wire the jacks, that's the hard part. If the office has a suspended ceiling, even stringing the cable isn't hard.

        Re: making ethernet panels

ok this is my idea of the problem

I know about the keystone jacks and the punchdown tools and the plates, no problem. but I have NEVER gotten panels in sheetrock before. do I need the enclosure to keep the panels screwed in the sheetrock? I keep getting mixed signals with all these web tutorials about if I can have JUST the panel, or if I need the little enclosure thats inside the wall the panel screws into

If I'm too late for the party, sorry.
          -
The old correct way is to install the enclosure [box] in the sheetrock to give the plate-screws something to screw into.
          -
The cheap [and easy] way is like what they sometimes do with phone jacks.
Use two small screw inserts for the plate-screws and just leave a hole behind the plate for clearance for the keystone. [And wire pass-through.]
          -
There is a middle way [new to me, and kind'a cool, new correct way??] where you cut the hole full size but use a special back-plate instead of a box.
          - Cut hole. Install plate in hole. Bend tabs on back of plate forward against the sheetrock to hold it in place. TA-DA -> screw holes. [see second attachment]

Different version of the 'new correct way' that uses screws to the fold-back tabs.

well that was f'ing terrible. the phone guy made 7 drops in 2 hours, I made 3 (3 and two 1's) in 12 hours. He had expirence behind him, and he gave me 3 of these nice caddies (opposed to these blue plastic ones I got @ ace). Had to call in my dad, use his snakes to run things over the roof (office roofs in the warehouse). owner wasn't wiling to pay more then $300 for labor, I don't blame him, but in the end I got yelled at, cabling isn't my strength, I should stick to my strengths. Soldering, computers, depression

                Sell or Shim Solar panels?
                by eccerr0r
Well, due to my grid tie inverter not accepting high voltages, and the fact that the lions in my solar panels are 36V (72-cell) I think I need to stick with 72-cell.

However I have a few smaller panels that are 36, 32, and two 30-cell. The 36 and 32 together run at 75% efficiency (and subtract more with additional inefficiencies) when running in parallel with the 72-cell panels. The kicker is that the two 30s... generate 0% power when connected in parallel(!)

So now what to do with these small panels?

                I could sell them...

                Or I could shim them....

                RJ45 Block Diagram / Schematic
                by Document Archive
                RJ45 Block Diagram / Schematic

RJ45 network connectors are most commonly found at either end of an Ethernet (wired internet) connection. At first glance, they appear similar to the familiar telephone plugs and jacks which connect landlines to walls or switchboards. However, RJ45 connectors are typically slightly larger.

The term RJ45 connector is widely used today to describe both male RJ45 plugs and female RJ45 sockets. The plugs, sometimes called modular connectors, are usually found on the end of Ethernet cables. The sockets or jacks are generally embedded in the device...

iMac A1418 - No LED, no power after overvoltage on Ethernet port
                by ryogadan78
Hi guys, I need your help again.
I have this iMac from a customer that shut down during a storm along with all the other devices in the house. In particular, the router, connected via Ethernet to the iMac, caught fire.
When I removed the screen from the iMac to check the status of the LEDs, I noticed that none of them were lit. I had a perfectly compatible and working power supply, so I tried it right away, but the problem remained the same (no LEDs). With the thermal camera, I noticed only a slight warming (32 degrees) of the NCP1605BG chip on the power supply. The rest was completely...
