Sony KDL-60EX500 5x blinks - is it TCON?

    Hi Folks,
Just need an opinion on an issue with a KDL-60EX500.
The STDBY Red LED comes on and blinks 5x. Responsive to power button, and switches to Green LED.. then after a minute or so, goes back to 5x blinks red LED

Going through the training manual https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...60EX500+blinks

I see it's a TCON board or A board if replacing TCON doesn't fix it. Parts are really expensive on this board so I'd rather not start swapping out boards.

One interesting finding is that if I disconnect the Panel from the TCON, though the 5x blinks still show, when I turn it on, I actually hear the chime and backlight comes on. Does that sound like a TCON board still?

Did yuo verify that you have 12VDC at both ends of the SMD fuse on the T-CON board with ref to the chassis GND?

Funny i see a F101 in photo and yes that's a fraction of an ohm (short)... 12 v is present on the TCon when the power button is pushed. If panel is connected to TCon the 12 V goes up then goes off. If i disconnect panel,v12 v is 12.54V and stayes on with backlight and chime

Try this, disconnect both ribbon cables between the T-CON and the LCD panel and everything else connected back up the see what happen.

you need to only disconnect one tcon to panel cable at a time.... no tcon to panel cables connected probably isn't going to do much other than just turn on backlighting.

If I have either cable from Panel to Tcon connected, the System doesn't turn on backlight or play the chime sound. 12 V behavior is the same if either Tcon to Panel ribbon cable is connected as when both are connected. Meaning if I have 1 or 2 ribbon cable connected to panel, the 12 V tries to come up but shuts off immediately.

Looks a lot like Sony rebadged a Sharp and the panel took a shit! WTF Sony?

is it the panel you think?

doesn't sound good but you should check some of the smd components on the edge boards at the panel in and around where the tcon to panel cables connect. IF an smd component (resistor or capacitor) is shorted there, it will cause the system to shutdown as the draw will be too great. One other question, when trying only one cable connected, did you try to a "force startup sequence" as depending on the error counters, the set may never attempt to start normally.

budwich, I'm not sure I understood the last sentence. What's a force startup sequence? I searched both manuals I have and there is no mention of it. Thank you

Got the new TCON - Same issues.. and the panel green boards don't seem to have shorted caps. I'm thinking maybe internal panel short? Parting out - if anyone needs parts, let me know Thanks for the help

You gave up too easily. But better luck in the future.
