Solder some wires from the LEDs(+/- markings) to the connector's solder joint.

ok but i have 14 led strips. they are made to fit together so i guess i actually have 7 full LED strips. but there are only 4 LED- and 4 LED+ pins on the connector. seemingly i can only power 4 LED strips...but why did the guy send me 7??

im afriad there might be something else going on behind the panel and just plugging one LED strip per +/- might not be a good idea?

I think you need to open up the LCD assembly to see how many and how the LED strips are in the panel and how they are connected.

this is what i was trying to avoid though, by getting the led strips i thought i could test the psu (converter) and the existing LED strips without opening up the panel?
has no one in the world opened one of these and can tell me?
what about doing the dummy resistor test?

"what about doing the dummy resistor test?" Only if you know how many are connected in series. I am guessing it has 4 strings based on the pictures of the connector and the amount of wires so 7 strips are odd numbers.
So if it is two strips per string then you should have 8 strips.

i know right...i wonder if he just sent me extra strips or something? i totally bitched the guy out and got 40$ back from him for the damaged LED and the product obviously not being new...but for all i know, these arent even the right strips for this tv!

really wish there was some way for me to know how many LED strips were in this thing without opening up but googling all the numbers on the labels has led me nowhere.

wish me luck! or tell me something else i can try quick before i get into this!

How many wire harnesses go into the panel? Or how many connectors are on the board?

2 connectors on the board, 4 wires in them each. one connector is for the - and one is for the +
so there are 8 wires total going into the panel...i think i took a picture of it in an earlier post

hmm i just read this in the service manual and its kinda freaking me out:
"Bright picture & thin design with Edge LED backlight"


what is EDGE LED Backlight??
is that where they are 2 strips on either edge of the screen?
cuz if thats the case...the strips this guy sold me are TOTALLY bogus

i actually just parted out a TV yesterday that had EDGE lit LED's ... maybe i can use them to test??

Backlit LED use those LED strips that you just bought them used, edge lit the skinny LED strip are on the edge of the screen same kind of setup as used in many LCD monitor that uses CCFL or LEDs.

i think i heard it called "direct lit" vs "edge lit"
and yeah...the service manual says this tv is edge lit and the guy sent me strips for direct lit.
what do i trust more? the sony service manual, or this guy on ebay? he has 100% positive feedback but when i sent him a message about that these are the wrong strips in addition to being broken and not new like advertised and that he had made a mistake..
he sent me a message back saying
"is that a threat?"
and then he sent a second message saying our transaction was done when he refunded half the money and that im breaking some kind of ebay policy by harrassing him any more about it.
im not harrassing...im just pointing out that i figured out that you ripped me off!!!
so i guess i gotta report this guy now.
what a nightmare. and of course it would have to happen on the one tv that im fixing for someone else.
if it was my own tv i wouldnt care as much but this is really delaying things!!!

but yea whether or not i get the rest of my money back from him, i have to figure out how to fix this tv! its a really nice 55 inch smart tv with no scratches and is only 2 years old!

so i have some edge lit backlights, and some backlight strips to test with..but without knowing what the driving voltage is supposed to be on the sony PSU, is there nothing i can do but guess?

I know I'm dredging this up from 2.5 years ago, but I have the exact same problem and have followed this thread and this thread hoping to find the solution but didn't. Did you ever figure it out triplefour? This forum is the closest I've come to finding a solution, and I registered just to ask.

Reading one of the service manuals linked to in this forum says if the backlights turn on, then turn off, then it blinks 6 times then it's the panel assembly and not the board, but I wanted to see what you found before trying it myself. I've been working on another TV for a friend for the third time, with one bad LED that keeps the whole set from turning on, and don't want to re-live the same frustrations on this one. Help?
