Samsung le40r88bd Clicking, All caps tested ok

Hi, I have a samsung le40r88bd which keeps clicking and will not fully power up, I removed all the capicitors and they all tested ok, I'm guessing it's still the power board at fault, Is there any other components which would cause clicking ??

Check all supply voltages from PSU are good or bad, before considering a bad power board.

Lots of the supply voltages are either lower than they should be or completely dead??

So, there should be a pin marked 13V, among others, what do you see on it?

Ok sorry i was doing it wrong the first time, I thought i had to remove the cable going from the main board to the power board to be able to test them, All voltages seem ok but when it clicks the 5v, 12v and 13v all seem to cut out then it clicks again and they come back on,

That is expected with the relay click, to me it sounds like the main board is shutting off the voltages. What you can try is unplugging that connector from the main board end. The backlight of the LCD should come on and the voltages should all remain steady.

Just check i've unpluged the correct wire, all voltages showing dead with that cable out, and no backlight..

You may have to place a test jumper then. Please get the BN44-xxxxxx number off the power board so I can look up schematics.

With all the board connected but the power switch is not activated, what do you have at the 6.2VSTBY output pin? Steady 6.2VDC?
                        http://assets.shopjimmy.com/media/ca...bn4400165a.jpg
BTW, BN44-00167x SCH is pretty close match to the BN44-00165
If 6.2VSTBY is steady, then you can leave the cable disconnected between the power supply and the main, then use 1K resistor between 6.2VSTBY and POWER ON_OFF PIN 1 of CN801, the relay should click and stay on, the DC voltage on the large main filter cap 450vdc should jump up to around 390vdc.

Hi, is this not just a simple case of a corrupted eeprom, in need of resetting via pins 5 and 6? I've had this clicking on and off after a caps change twice before and both times it was the above that got it working again, although on the second time the service menu needed a lot of work to get it back to normal.

Right, on this set the STB is shown as 5.2 not 6.2 and it remains constant even while relay is clicking, As i said before i'm new to all this and so i'm not very familiar with using resistors yet and have none lying about, I do have a s*it load of electronic goods lyin arround so if you could tell me the colour of bands i'm lookin for then i could try look for one then try use it between the STB 5.2V and power_on_off pin 1, Thanks again.. ;-)

I would listen first to what these guys have to say about your PSU, but I do suspect this is your issue.

You will need two 20cm or so lengths of a fine gauge wire, a thin stereo speaker wire will do, you'll then need to remove your main board and look roughly top left on the back for a small 8 pin IC, it does say eeprom somewhere near it, now counting anti clockwise from the top left find pins 5 and 6, obviously bottom two on the right, you'll need to very carefully solder each 20cm length of wire to each pin making sure not to short them, once done support the wire with some electrical tape and replace the board plugging everything back in. Now the hard part, hold together both ends of the wires then turn on the tv from the mains and at exactly one second release them, the Tv should go to standby, if not repeat the process(this can take a number of times but you might be lucky, this worked on the second time with the last set I did), now simply use your remote to enter the service menu, from stand by press: INFO/MENU/MUTE/POWER, choose option 2 and make sure the settings look something like what you'll find here, post 18: http://www.avforums.com/threads/sams...ch-on.1303522/, you'll also need to go to number 8 and check that the tuner is set to "AUTO", then number 12 to reset your Tv back to factory defaults.

Only press "down" or "up" and the "enter" button to enter the required field and the "return" button to exit back to the previous menu, powering it off will save the settings.

Things to watch for are the HDMI HP DLY, on the last one I did this was way over at 63 causing the third HDMI port to disappear, actually turned out the counter would only go up to 48 or 49 so just a little out, this should be around 9 to 12, also screen type but post 18 of the above web site will help, good luck.
