Panasonic TX-26LXD80 - tab bonds fault (4th ChiMei V260B1 panel with same fault)

Another ChiMei 26" 720p with a tab fault (occasional blown out image, grey/white, distorted, jumping vertically, fading in and out, freezing -- all resolving after some time.) Applying pressure to top left tab fixed issue. Twisting frame of TV occasionally fixed image. Picture for future reference.

    This panel definitely used in:

    Panasonic TX-26LXD80 (fixed two)
    LG 26LC55
    Sanyo CE26LC81-B

I have not yet seen this fault with 32" 720p ChiMei panels.

Thanks to a fellow badcaps member as this was a free TV.

Out of curiousity, in a previous thread, you mentioned that you had succesfully fixed bad tab bonds by re-wiring the top bonds to the side bonds (or at least that is how I interpreted it). What is the difference in construction in this panel that prevented you from doing the re-wiring thing?

Also, out of curiousity, any chance you could post a link to the write up that you referenced in the other post? I can't find the thread, but I'll keep looking.

I mentioned that it was an idea. Unfortunately the project TV I was planning to do it on did not have a typical tab bond fault. Instead of the bond between the tab and LCD, the fault was between the tab and chip on the tab, which the idea in question cannot fix. In fact that cannot be fixed at all, and shims will be unreliable on those.

The suggestion of manual wiring in will be best used on panels where tab shims prove to be unreliable (but do work somewhat) such as on Samsung 32" and 40" 1080p, and LG 37" panels. Other panels it would seem a shim is the best long term solution.

You'll notice my opinion has changed as I've had more time to think about the causes of all these LCD and LED-LCD TV faults. Shims can sometimes be long term fixes if the issue exists on the bond between the PCB and tab, but only really in that instance.

That stinks, think of the TVs that could be saved if someone could come up with a cheap and permanent fix for bad tab bonds.

There is a permanent fix. See here:

            http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqVU0YggPEs

If you have to ask the price of those machines though, you can't afford one.

Oh, and there's still the problem of getting replacement tabs, and soldering the tab back onto the driver board.

So it's unlikely to be worth it except on 60"+ LCDs where the price might be economical.

Man thats sad.. Even Panasonic uses cheap outsourced LCD panels. Guess it all started when they started putting Chinese power supplies in Plasmas...
                O well
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

This is a 2008 TV. Their newer TV line is 99% LG Display panels which are pretty good panels.

Yeah same panel, had 100% success on these fixes. At last check, before Sanyo sold, had played for over 5 months with no issues whatsoever.

thats good never attempted one yet but may have mates 32in samsung with possible tab bonds fault i will post a video up as not 100% sure its a tab fault (on the bottom on this set) or a main board fault.

I've done one of those and it can be fixed, it's not tab bonds per se. Here's a guide writen by a Romanian Samsung employee: https://cdn.badcaps-static.com/pdfs/...d70dc0a22e.pdf

It's delicate work but not impossible.
