    Powerman resurrected

    This is a Powerman model IW-P250A2-0 which had a "blasted" 5vsb circuit. Both switching transistors black and broken, along with a few other parts. I made an attempt at replacing bad parts and powered up. Blasted the transistors again, along with a few other parts, and damaged the 5vsb transformer, one winding open and one winding shorted.

    I wasn't able to find an exact replacement transformer, but used a transformer from a Fortron psu which had a badly burned pc board. I constructed a 5vsb circuit on breadboard using the DM311 IC rather than the 2 transistor design. 5vsb came up at 5.02 volts. Power supply came up running fine, all output voltages look good.

    Photos attached. It may look "strange" but it now works just fine.

      So I may remove the note regarding finding the 5VSB transformer, correct?

      I recently began wondering why another trafo would not work, if it came from a similar setup? You have shown that it will. Excellent!

          Yes Toasty - you can remove the note about finding an exact replacement 5vsb transformer. I must say - it was one hell of a modification!!!

          It does show that aside from a severely burned pc board, even a blown 5vsb circuit can be completely replaced - and re-engineered with better circuitry. Even an expensive AT power supply can be given new life with the addition of a 5vsb add-on board.

                  Based on the way it looked when I first got it, and based on the bang the first time I tried to fix it, I would say that a replacement transformer will not come "walking" thru the door..........more like FLYING thru the door!

                                  Help choosing replacement transformer for Levoit 600S SMPS

                                  Hello Community,

                                  I'm attempting to repair the SMPS on a Levoit 600S air purifier. The transformer is likely open. It has six pins. 2 pairs on the primary side (one pair tested open) and 1pair of legs on the secondary side. Legs on the secondary side are spread wide apart (end-to-end). I've circled them in blue. Dimentons of the transformer are 22x23mm. Marking on the transformer are EE16 1.9mH-B. Fuse for the powerboard is fuse 250V 3.15A. I've been unable to find an exact match and I'm hoping for some help here to find a suitable replacment.

                                  I'm looking at an original Xbox PSU: Foxlink ftps-0002 rev. B. The 12 V output is too low, and the 5 V output is too (?) high. Unfortunately I don't have an oscilloscope but only a DMM for diagnosis.

                                  Measured voltages with no load:

                                  After rectifier diodes
                                  12V: 6.17 V
                                  5V: 5.67 V

                                  Secondary transformer pins AC measurement (really don't know if this says anything)
                                  12V: 2-2.5 V
                                  5V: 1.04 V


                                  I also have another (working) Xbox psu from Delta. The same measures there, in order, being: 10.79,...

                                  Hi all,
                                  Got this local made DC power supply (12/14V) given free as the transformer has melted. There is no marking or indication to identify what type or rating of transformer used.
                                  Fyi,. I had a busted autogate mainboard with transformer with marking 13-0-13 . Is this the 13v dc type transformer?
                                  My questions are
                                  1. How do i test to see if the transformer is in good working condition?
                                  2. Can this transformer (marking 13-0-13) be used to replace the melted transformer on the DC power supply?

                                  i would like to post an interesting topic regarding 3-phase stepdown transformer which we suspect to cause an overcurrent (138A) which resulted to power tripped off of the HV power supply (80KV output).


                                  Problem statement: Power tripped Off
