Hello again all. I'm back with a look at a vizio 42 inch lcd I bought for mom about a year and a half ago. The symptoms started a few days ago with a flickering screen. I swapped the vizio for a spare Polaroid to see if I fix it and I took some pics

Re: moms vizio vx42L screen flickering
Have I been hitting the vodka punch too hard or is that a Chemicon KY?
Sure you don't want to hammer the top down and seal it with some RTV? I loved when I read that one from TC.
I've heard that the KYs don't like too much heat. They like to pop on hot graphics cards too.
Oh yeah and shy away from that Vizio, Westinghouse, and "insert unknown name here" crap you get what you pay for.
Vizio provides no parts or service for their products outside of the short warranty period. Which ironically is when they like to fail.
Panasonic FC or FMs would make good replacements and they definitely can take the heat.Last edited by Krankshaft; 11-26-2009, 09:41 PM.Elements of the past and the future combining to make something not quite as good as either.Comment

Re: moms vizio vx42L screen flickering
All I could find on eBay was fc I found an fm but its to tall. I feel lucky or is that the 40 oz.
Is it OK to post eBay links here if so I'll post the link to what I found.
Krankshaft it does say ky but I don't see Chemicon any were on the cap. I have the same set a few months older with no troubles yet but I kill all power here when I leave 5 days a week about 10 hours a day hers never doesn't have power. As for heat mine runs very cool much cooler than the Polaroids and a lot smaller parts. I never checked moms for heat. I"ll wait to see what you guys have to say about these caps on eBay before I order. If this goes well I have a related 50 inch Philips plasma to ad to my chain of TV stories to share. As always thanks to this site and its members I'm fixing more stuff than throwing away.Comment

Re: moms vizio vx42L screen flickering
The pointed crown logo is Chemicons logo.
You're better off ordering from a reputable Panasonic distributor like Digikey.
The Panasonic FC series would replace the KY series fine. I always put them in arid environments and they perform great.
Be sure to replace any other KYs on the board too. As for cap sizing I'm sure you have some wiggle room if you can't find the exact same size as the original caps.Last edited by Krankshaft; 11-27-2009, 06:06 AM.Elements of the past and the future combining to make something not quite as good as either.Comment

ok I was able to find it. Here is the link
http://parts.digikey.com/1/parts/486...u-fc1v471.html Hope I don't get in trouble for it. I did a yahoo search and came up with the digikey link. It was to easy lol gonna order 10 now.
If only the hammer and rtv trick would work.Comment

Re: moms vizio vx42L screen flickering
Just enter the keywords into it..... lets say you were looking for a 16v 2200uF cap, just enter "16v 2200uf" in the search box and then narrow it down using categories like "Low ESR" or "low impedance".
Or if you know what series, say Panasonic FM, enter "16v 2200uF panasonic FM"
This works for pretty much any good online cap distributor.
Stay away from eBay.....its counterfeit central!Comment

Re: moms vizio vx42L screen flickering
I know what you mean the search engine takes some getting used to.
I enter capacitor in the search field. Then select electrolytic from the list then you get a simple set of drop down boxes to drill down for their electrolytic caps.
I select series FC don't bother with the low impedance some caps that are low ESR aren't even categorized with that suffix. Select the uF and WV and hit the button. Now you will be left with multiple matches of the same value and series the multiple manufacturer part numbers are for different sizes in that uF and WV.
Refer to the FC series datasheet for the correct part number for the correct size you need.Elements of the past and the future combining to make something not quite as good as either.Comment

Re: moms vizio vx42L screen flickering
Does anyone use Mouser? I just ordered a bunch of Chemicons from them 11/26 in the afternoon, and they got here yesterday, 11/30, afternoon. Considering Thanksgiving intervened, I was pretty pleased with the response. I didn't really consider price, just availability of size and capacity needed. Maybe a mistake on my part, but I ended up with two different versions(?), PW and HE, to fit the farads and size limits. I figured they had to be better than what was there, and would likely outlast the useful life of the computer [three years old already] and the TV [closer to 15 years]. Both series were Low ESR, 105C, and I don't have a good source to look up the old ripple and ESR figures, but two will replace a Fuuuu-whatever in two power supplies and the rest go into the SMPS on 27" RCA sets.
I couldn't find some 39uf's at Digikey, and figured it would be less expensive to have one order for everything. Any thoughts?

Are some of the Chemi-Con KY Series fakes?
Flat panel TVs and monitors can get quite hot inside. My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.Comment

Re: moms vizio vx42L screen flickering
Also I use the same set for tv web games what ever but there's this one thing that really bugs the crap out of me is the led lit vizio logo on the frontit messes with my peripheral vision and floats around on the screen while watching. I put black tape over it on this set but I have the other set apart now so I was thinking to just disconnect it

by spice_discI'm currently trying to diagnose and fix my Vizio TV (Model M50-C1). I've tried a number of different basic solutions, but I'm trying to determine if my issue is currently a failing panel, T-Con board, or main board (or something else entirely) and whether or not it is worth my time to fix it. Details of the issue and what I've tried are below as well as why I think it is either a bad panel, T-Con board, or main board.
The Issue: The TV will be on and working fine but after the TV is on for ~5-10 minutes the screen will freeze (with sound continuing) until the TV reboots itself. While...1 Photo -
by Ado02Hello everyone,
We recently replaced the OLED screen on a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Gen 10. After about a month, the replacement screen began to flicker. Initially, updating the IntelĀ® IrisĀ® Xe graphics driver resolved the issue for about a week. However, when the problem recurred, updating the driver again had no effect.
The flickering only occurs once the system reaches the Windows login screen. Interestingly, if we disable the Intel GPU driver or connect the laptop to an external monitor, the flickering stops. We have tried installing two different replacement screens,...12-16-2024, 02:33 PM -
by Ryan.manHello everybody! Posting this in hopes somebody has some expertise that leads to a clear path of troubleshooting that saves me a lot of time!
My macbook has the flex cable problem, the one that prevents the screen turning on. Ive been dealing with this for the last 3 years. Last year it went dead and I managed to fix it following youtube tutorials. But my fix wasnt the best, the problem returned a month later. This week, it went dead again. I again tried to fix it.
This time the original cable broke too close to the screen, it can't be fixed without tearing the screen... -

This device came in due to the screen flickering if you use the touchpad or external mouse. It will flicker black when this occurs. If you use the touchscreen, the behavior does not appear. Also, if connected to external monitor, the external monitor is not affected by the flickering. I did a good amount of research on this, and concluded that it is due to the display driver. HP does not offer Windows 11 drivers for this model so I got the replacement drivers direct from Intel. I installed them and the problem... -
by smic717394Hi,
I have a iphone XS that came in for a screen replacement, the screen was badly cracked, and inside missing scues, on the back of the screen still the blue protector, the screen was a LCD. So we replaced the screen and all good, installed the screen and we noticed that pressing the screen with a bit of force but not excessive, the phone dies. After plugging the charger it turns back on, but again if you press it it dies. I open the phone again, and I can't see anything major, with the phone open, if I press on the logic board, battery, charging board, or even putting pressure on... - Loading...
