Another Sanyo DP42848 Good Sound/No Picture

I've sifted through many posts about the exact same model TV with the exact same problem, but I haven't found any that have answered my questions. The ones that kind of get to my questions never have any follow up to see if the problem was corrected.

My problem is the very typical, 2 seconds to black. I've used a flashlight to confirm that there is a picture, it's just not back lit. I have two years of part time Electrical engineering classes taken about three years ago, but it was mostly theory with a little elementary circuit building. I have a lot of tools, but no ESR meter.

In a nutshell, I'm broke. I got this TV for a few bucks and I'd like to refrain from changing out boards that don't need changing. I am not near the TV right now to post pics, but I can get pics from another post that I found with the exact same boards as I have. Even the same REV levels. From what I've read here, the problem is likely bad inverter board(s), but may be CCFL(s), the T-Con board, or even the main board. With that said, I've also read here that bad CCFL's would likely show as a color issue, and a bad T-con board would have no picture at all.

At this point, I have probed all of the outputs on the PSU and verified the voltages printed on the boards.

Following this thread, I have probed the transformers on the inverter boards but I'm either not probing it right, or all four transformers are dead. This thread by the way is about the same TV, as is the next. The boards are the same as mine.

I've downloaded the service manual for this TV, but I could use some guidance. Is it possible to test the individual parts to find the fault?

Do you have a camera to take pictures, if they are needed? The other images are clear but if we need more then a camera may be useful.

When you are testing like this
    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attach...4&d=1350660859

You should get somewhere from 500 ohms to 5k ohm across the marked pins. Don't use the continuity tester on your meter. Make sure that the TV is unplugged while doing the test.

I do have a camera and will post clear pics tonight. If I shouldn't use a continuity tester on my meter, what should I use?

The 20k ohm range, or just the ohms range if your meter is auto-ranging (higher end meters are; if it's a $10 RadioShack special, it's unlikely to be.)

Yeah, that's a fuse. Check the resistance across it, should be close to zero ohms. (Do this with power disconnected.)

Test the transformers as indicated, but use the 20k ohm range:
              https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attachm...4&d=1350660859

Note down each reading. A significantly different one (more than +/-3%) is cause for concern.

Remember to disconnect power while testing inverter transformers.

Checked the fuses, near zero just like you said. I'll check the transformers and report back in a couple hours. Thanks

Check the fuse on the other board, as well.

I swiped this pic from another post, but I'm getting very similar readings on both boards. With the DMM at 20K, all pins showed either an open or 0.0. With the DMM at 200, the transformers closest to the end of both boards (that would be the right one in the pic below) show an open at every pin. The other transformers on both boards (the left one on the pic below) show 0.5 Ohms between the two big pins, where the pic shows 0.1, and 24.1 Ohms where the picture shows 25.0.

So when you measured 0.1 ohms, do you mean "0.1" on the 20k ohm scale (100 ohm) or 0.1 ohm on the 200 ohm scale (0.1 ohm.)

Just trying to make sure it's being measured right.

the 200 ohm scale. I just got 0.0 with the 20k scale.

This must be a different design then; it's not impossible, I suppose. The open transformer is highly suspect. Can you test the other inverter?

It seems unlikely to me that two transformers would fail in the same way. Did you check the fuse on the other inverter? I remember someone here had a problem with a similar Sanyo, and it turned out to be a bad bulb.

I tested both fuses. They both tested the same. Both inverter boards test exactly the same.

What do you think of this?
                                    http://www.bestelectronicarticles.co...ht-system.html

Right now, I'm leaning towards bulbs too. Do you know of a way to bypass the inverter boards to get the bulbs to light?

Do you have the LCD panel model number? you can find the spec sheet of the LCD panel which will show you how the inverter and the lamps are setup.
