      Are you referring to this?

This looks perfect, though I'm not sure about the fan. Other people are using it with my CPU, so the only question is whether it clears my RAM or not. I'll look into it.

Oh yeah.. I've got a bunch of those old PALs. They were the only thing available to chilll a hot Athlon other than water. Nicely made, heavy as hell, but the bolt-through design made that a non-problem.

I have a few with a 92mm adapter plate for the bigger/slower/quieter Panaflo fans.

For the OP, please do not forget about keeping your VRM cool. Either an aux fan, or a down-drafter will do.

I gravitate toward larger cases, and use the Zipang or AXP-140 downdraft coolers. I have three Zipang running on GA-EP45-UD3R boards, but they are NASTY to attach using the Thermalright bolt-through kit. Not impossible, just real irritating. Installed for life, as far as I'm concerned.

This is silly overkill on my part, because E8400 is only 63w and runs cool and nice with the stock Intel cooler.

precisely. it clears Corsair DHX so it should work fine. if not its adjustable, the whole mounting mechanism's made of rubber.

            that's a big problem,
leave the rear for now, put decent ones in the front.
i use antec pro series with double ballbearings that move about 80cfm.
dont worry about noise - the filters really cut that down.

antec fans are pretty good - so atleast they have something worth buying!

I don't know if that one will clear, my friend has that cooler in his computer and we had to flip it around as the fan wouldn't clear the ram. It's just normal OCZ ram, nothing special.

I've been pointed to this cooler by someone using the same system as me. I think I'll give it a shot.

hmmm i must have a different revision or something. DHX is 1cm taller than the normal corsair XMS heatsinks, so, oh well.

These Artic coolers are excellent performers and fan is simply clipped on by two sides. Comes off easily if you need to access ram. Quiet too.

                        And this
                        http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835103065

I'm leaning a bit towards the Cooler Master because of the more standard fan, though I am not looking forward to mounting it.

The Arctic looks great for easy mounting, but might be a pain if the fan fails or doesn't fit. At least with the Cooler Master, I could probably put the fan on the side closest to the back of the case, and still have it blowing towards the back.

I'll also be upgrading the rear case fan.

                          Re: Need CPU Cooler Advice

I lean toward arctic. If the original fan fails, cut the struts off and use the base of the fan with the clips as your mounting point for standard fan.

Cooler Master is very average and cheap fans. I used them for very short period of time (around a year range) then replaced them all. Thermaltake is no better either.

and yes.. i know its dirty.. gonna clean everything up when i put that comp into my new case (with airfilters..woohoo )

edit: BTW.. only difference between Freezer 7 Pro and Freezer 64 Pro is the mounting clip

i think i have some in clear with blue led's from socket7 heatsinks.

I've used Arctic Cooling on my Core 2 Quad build for the CPU cooler. I guarantee that cooler master will sound like a leaf blower.

AC uses rubber insulated shocks on their motors so they run whisper quiet their fan blade design is very good too cuts down on turbulence which is the primary cause of noise.

If you go with the other heatsink and need a standard size fan replace that crap that comes with the cooler master and go for a Yate Loon. They're Taiwanese fans that are pretty cheap on e-bay but are really quiet while still pumping out some decent CFM.

I've got 5 of them in my Antec 300 case.

arctic cooling makes way better fans than coolermaster. the coolermasters always use sleeve or whatever bearings, while arctic uses fluid dynamic or maglev.

if you're worried about the rubber mountings, it's a standard mount anyway (92mm and PWM). if you're worried get the Delta or Sanyo PWM 92mm and it will never fail.

                                      Re: Need CPU Cooler Advice

After finding out that the plastic cradle around my CPU would not hold the Arctic Cooling, I got the Cooler Master.

Also bought a couple nice Scythe S-FDB 1200RPM fans. One for the back of the case, and one for the CPU or PSU, depending on how bad the sleeve bearing fan on the Cooler Master ends up being.

I think a lot of my problem is because of high case temps. Both the PSU and rear case fans barely move any air. I'm already on my second Corsair PSU due to overheating, and my video card is uncomfortable to touch even when idle. The stock AMD cooler also has one of it's sides blocked by RAM, so it loses airflow that way. The new cooler won't be blocked at all, and will blow towards the rear case fan.

I'll post my results later this week when I get everything installed. Thanks for all the tips guys.

Also, I may go for the Arctic cooler for my Mom's Phenom II X3 based system, which also has heat issues during the Summer. That way I'll get to try both.

I don't trust the single lug on each side of the CPU cradle to hold something with that much tension.

Plus, having 120mm fans for everything in my PC simplifies things a bit when it comes to buying new fans in the future. Not to mention the ability to mount the fan on either side of the heatsink, and still have it blow towards the back.

The only thing I don't care for on the Cooler Master, is the rather rough base due to the direct heatpipe contact. The base on the Arctic cooler was nicer in that regard.

I already posted this on vogons.
Its a 3d printed custom bracket for socket 478.
I used this AM4 bracket as a base design.
Its to be use with cheap generic clip based cpu cooler.

                                            Reason for doing this is:
                                            - Its hard to get/find a good copper base cooler. Even if you find one, the price is ....
                                            - New generic cooler is cheaper and can use bigger fan (less noise)

I tested the bracket with cheap chinese horizontal cooler + fan taken from CM hyper 212 evo.
The processor that I was using is P4 2.4Ghz prescott....

                                            Hi all,

I made a big-ass mess here of my father's beloved P602, and I'm trying to figure out if I should order a batch of overpriced ribbons or if I'd just be throwing more good money at the bad.

He woke up recently to a bunch of white bars going down the right side of the screen. From what I'd seen in these places, I figured the T-con board has gone out or has a bad connection. I took the back off and gently poked at the socketed ribbons and sure enough, got the image back. It was mainly the far left ribbon, and it would snap back to stripes if I let off the pressure....

Hey all, was wanting to know what cheapest option is for programming EC chips such as the MEC5107-LJ

i searched online and found such programmers as the SVOD4, Vertyanov Successor , and the RT809h type but didn’t see this particular BGA EC chips listed? So hoping for some advice here , cheers.

                                            Hi everyone,

Looking for some advice or opinions on what to do with a monitor issue I’ve run into. Apologies in advance is this crossovers a few forum categories.

I have a Dell U3425WE, which I've recently replaced with another model. That said, the original unit is still fully functional in terms of the display — it works perfectly over HDMI and DisplayPort. However, the USB-C and Thunderbolt 4 ports have stopped functioning correctly. The Issue:
                                            • The 90W Thunderbolt 4 port (circled in the photo) no longer charges or powers any device, including laptops or MacBooks.
