    Re: Laptop Search

because it was a freebie and it has the specs of a trinitron. to be exact, it is a EN-710e. specs:

    1,280 x 1,024 maximum resolution at 60 Hz
    0.27-millimeter dot pitch

all the trinitrons i see at thrift shops are ancient (like the august 1992 one i have sitting around, 800x600 256c!). ok, not that old but still old (like 1996ish)

Nice laptop. Looks very clean and simple. None of that glossy paint that attracts fingerprints like crazy.
How's it in terms of cooling and noise?

Yeah, I see you've got that whole Sony theme going on there .

You know, I could have gotten a 21" Sony Trinitron E540 from my work. Boss offered it to me, but I didn't have space at the time so I declined. I'm still slapping myself for making that decision. Could have gotten an awesome monitor that can do 1920x1440 max and 1600x1200 native @85Hz.
Sigh. Some days I'm just really stupid like that.
I think (and hope) they still have it at work, though. Before I left, I did tell my boss to call me if they ever throw anything away (he was planning on getting rid of all CRTs). They have two of those E540s. If I ever get both, I'll definitely have to send you one.

I've got mixed feelings about the company. I think they have really gone downhill lately. Still though I love Trinitrons and some of their old audio gear is really nice (Sony ES anyone?).

Trinitron E540.... drool.... get in touch with me if you ever get ahold of one and you want to send it my way

The laptop runs very cool. I would say it gets lukewarm at best. The fan isn't very loud but it does seem to run slowly most of the time if you're running it in "Balanced" mode and have Aero turned on.
