now that my 4 towers are now finished, i would like comments on my hardware:

Tower #1- gaming

dremel'd out fan ports (so the fans can do thier job)
dremel'd out front/side vents, replaced with gutter-guard

(ill post pics of the mods soon, on vacation right now, the board has yet to be re-capped)

with the gutter-guard vents, it looks kinda sexy... for an old case, that is.

NOTES:

tower #1 has adifferent video card right now, the one mentioed has yet to come int he mail

Tower #2 is not running, the board needs re-capped, caps coming w/card

tower #3 has no working wi-fi at this time, in the works

towers 2,3, and 4 have 1 or more fans custom wired to a p4 12v+ connector (de-soldered form dead mobos), so that cable is not wasted, and to not clutter with ugly molex inline adapters.

whoops... back form vacation, screwed it up:

Tower #2 gets the sony 40x after all
Tower #3 gets the benq 52x (the lg is dead)... and a usb 2.0 card (3 ports external, 1 internal header) and an internal card reader.
Tower #4 gets a lite-on 40x burner

to start off, i just got the card today. works great. however, i had to leave right after the test, i had another trip to leave for (robotics competition in cleavland). to answer the questions : (what it does, current status, future status at my house to be in Louisville)

1. web browsing, games (torcs, tremulous, etc.), homework, tv viewing

main rig in bedroom

will be only rig in my bedroom


2. web browsing, medium games (foobilliard, etc), file serving

in garage next to #4, inactive, waiting for a recap next week

will be in basement workshop


3. web, photo uploads, light games (minesweeper, etc.)

in my room being worked on (possible bad hd)

will be in either great room or living room


4. web, light games

in garage, used for looking stuff up (and bragging about my latest mod! )

will be in either great room or living room



next week when i get time, i will post pics. #2 has LOTS of mods, #4 has a few, and face it, #1 just looks cool.

um... its linux, not m$.

however, i can LAN frozen-bubble, i bet it would run on all (runs on my eee-pc 1000HEb without breaking a sweat).

only #1 is intended for gaming, the rest can be used for games of varying levels of graphics.

Just one thing though, (and you'd probably hate to hear this ) but you should get some form of Windows (perhaps XP) running on that p4 prescott 630 PC. I know MS is expensive and you'd rather not spend any money on that, but on the other side there's a much wider variety of games you can choose from (both free and paid). You can also take NxB's advice and get some old games. Many of them can be found for under $10, too, and I'm talking about popular, well known titles.

By the way, is that eVGA 7600GT from the lot that TC fixed?
