    Re: My new tower fleet

How can you be so sure that was the issue?
Have you identified the failed part? We're just hypothesizing (I think).

well... the cpu is not detected. the memory is another issue.

besides, i stripped it for caps for the abit. what a PITA to recap. it still isn't done, i really am leaning towards finding another here or on ebay.

Are you having problems cleaning holes or getting caps out?

its more of making what i have fit. i don't have one of the types (16v 470uf)... ill check a couple more dud boards...

besides, the board is almost too big for the case i'm using... it bareley fits...

if it works, ill find my t-bred 2400+ for it. i also have 4gb ddr for it.

The gutter guard looks ok, but the hot glue dosen't. I would peel it all off, make the gutter guard about 1/4" bigger than the opening on either side and hot glue it in there, or use something more permanent.

              Re: My new tower fleet

i did. the reason the glue is also on the outside becase i tried to use it as bondo and trying to use the dremel to blend in the edge of the plastic created an uneven edge.

also, i was afraid the glue would de-bond on the saddle cover. it already is starting to come off.

if i thought i could pull it off, i might dremel the hot glue so it blends in (shape-wise). then, i might spray paint it.

if you have to do this type of thing, then use epoxy resin.

you can sand it afterwards like a car body repair - then spray the whole panel with acrylic paint.

                as for hot-crap,
i refuse to call it glue.

put the plastic in a fridge or freezer for a while or spray it with freezer.
then it will break clean off.

that stuff is useless if it gets cold.

works fine for me. epoxy isn' the cheapest....i might redo it down the road, but il try sanding the hot glue first.

                    Re: My new tower fleet

good news. i looked in my dead mobo pile, and found the caps i need:

1 1000uf 6.3v (sanyo or nichicon HE, the HE's have very little use on them)
4 470uf 16v (Nichicon vr, found on a dead ell board)
                    1 25v 100uf (nichicon)

ill put them in tomorrow... we'll see if it works.

i killed the abit. i split 2 traces that were not fixable.

damn it... and i have nothing...just damn it.

So, go back to finding the bad component on the previous dead board and we'll see what we can do with it.

You can run your server off one of your older PCs - what's it doing, file sharing?

                              i got the board...

the chipset fan was dead. i replaced it.

it will not boot. it posts, but when it is supposed to boot, it locks up. changing drives has no effect on it. i tried a different psu, no effect. i tried playing wirh memory, nothing. i tried a couple agp cards. no luck. i have not tried switching processors, as that is a pain.

                              ideas?

it is an asus a7v133 1.05.

all caps but 2 are rubycon of fujitsu poly. 2 are nichicon (idk the series, could be hm, could be vr or he or the like)

                                        solved.

i swapped form an 1800+ palomino to a 1ghz t-bird. it likes the t-bird; the 1800+ is fried.

according to the asus website you need at least BIOS version 1007 and PCB version 1.05 for Palomino Athlon XP's
