I got one of these boards sitting in the back closet a long time ago for free. I got a Athlon 64x2 3800+ 939 from a friend that is maybe/maybe not working, so I put it in the board and gave it a shot.
I'm using a known good stick of ddr-333 with a supermicro 420W psu and a pci fx5200, all known good working parts. I hit the power button, fans spin, but nothing on screen. Hold the power button, it eventually turns off. Then I learn this board has the ability to talk through speakers as to what the problem is. To test and make sure it was working, I removed the ram and fired it up. Sure enough, a female voice kept saying "memory test fail," put the ram back in and it stops. Anyways I have tried other known good sticks of ram, a known good pci-e video card in the top blue slot, to no avail. The southbridge is cool to the touch, so is the processor. If I remove the processor, the female voice says "cpu not installed" over and over again. So I'm thinking it's one of three things:
1. bios not new enough to support processor
2. Cpu bad (most likely)
3. bios fired (unlikely, still throwing error codes)
What do ya'll think. Is there a way to flash the bios with the newest one without having to put a known compatible and working processor in by any chance?
