Might want to put a few zipties to hold it onto something, too.

Hot glue + heatsink = fan that constantly falls off and makes grinding noises. I hot glued a 92mm delta fan onto the cooler for my xeon 3.2, and it just kept falling right off. I zip tied it on now, and its been going for 6 months straight.

        Re: CPU Cooler fan mod?

Have you considered using the case fan and a duct around the heatsink to pull air from inside to out or blown in? more efficient and not as high rpm & noise.

The set up is blocking too much fins and most of flow is aorund first 1 cm of fan tips. Center is not as much in flow.

I investigated this in depth long ago. Bare fan blowing at heatsink without anything between heatsink and fan itself is effective. Ditto to ducting around heatsink of this type to a fan about inch or more apart gives air flow to even out and go thorugh heatsink evenly.

        Cheers, Wizard

That looks better, especially since you have it pulling air instead of pushing. In my opinion, this always seems to move more air.

See that the fan is on the bottom of your shield and is pulling air out downwards, is this an efficient way? Have you checked the CPU temp between this design and your original design?

                        Only way it will fit.

but i did add to it.

Well before with the way that fan heatsint was setup by defoult it was running in around 40 to 45 c

Now its down to 36 C

I think my original design would not have fitted in my case without hitting all the wires nearby.

me too. im using RPMs as a reference point. but with FaH running it is on full blast. not fun when your exhaust is the old pwm fan fom the crap cooler it came with. loud but effective. having the side panel off does that too.

                                        Those are excellent temps.
                                        What is the room ambient?

My gripe with cross flow fans is the lack of cooling on the VRM.
This violates the Intel design spec, which requires cooling for the VRM.

I bought an IR temp gun, just so I can monitor VRM temps on all the boards I service. Quite a nifty toy.. you shine it everywhere, and it tells you the temps.
My wife wanted to take it out for her Ghost Hunter night with the girls, but I said no. The last thing I need is for one of my nice toys/tools to get screwed up at a party.

If you run boards with heat pipe cooling to the VRM, i.e. Gigabyte UD3 boards, the downdraft becomes a non-issue.

OLD Socket 478 custom bracket + NEW generic cooler

I already posted this on vogons.
Its a 3d printed custom bracket for socket 478.
I used this AM4 bracket as a base design.
Its to be use with cheap generic clip based cpu cooler.

                                          Reason for doing this is:
                                          - Its hard to get/find a good copper base cooler. Even if you find one, the price is ....
                                          - New generic cooler is cheaper and can use bigger fan (less noise)

I tested the bracket with cheap chinese horizontal cooler + fan taken from CM hyper 212 evo.
The processor that I was using is P4 2.4Ghz prescott....

Wine cooler flickers at startup and doesn't cool enough

                                          Hi there!
I have an old wine bottle cooler, it's a basic peltier cell system with a power supply built in with the controller board, with a simple display at the front door and 2 push buttons to select the desired temperatura.
Symptoms are it doesn't barely cool down, and makes a chirping noise at the board.
Both fans on each side of the peltier are (now, after much cleaning) running smooth and silent
When you turn it on, the front 7-segment display flickers for a variable time, usually like 1 minute but sometimes nothing or 3 minutes... Then turn on solid (but still some...

Wine and Beverage Cooler Control Board Repair Attempt

Trying to a fancy Wine and Can Beverage Cooler which wasnt working.
                                          Model number AWBC242GGFD
Previous owner states that it needs a new motor.

When plugged up you hear a quick chime from the PCB alarm but it quickly dies away (trails off actually) and there is no sign of life from the unit at all.
I pulled out the main control board to give a look.

Fuses checked out okay. All diodes except one checked out. It was reading in both directions so I pulled it out of circuit and checked it again but this time it read good.
                                          ...

Cooler Master ATC-S + Some other CoolerMaster Case - 2-fer in 1 Thread

This is a Coolermaster case double-header.... The reason this one didn't get added to my 'misc build' thread is becasue the Cooler Master ATC-S aluminum case....That case is a class-act way above & beyond anything in that thread! However, we have to get through a mediocre build to get to the treasure!

...but here's the two Cooler Master cases in question; both of which were drop-offs for recycling.... The one on the left, I'm not really sure what model it is. It's nothing overly special, but it is well-made. The one on the right is an ATC-S solid aluminum, best I can determine...

This is my son’s cooler for his semi truck for his drinks the other day it started short cycling ( running for a second or two then shutting down ) and restarting four or five times then going into an error power cycle the controller then it would do the same thing again

Found a 47uf@63 volts double the ESR value of a new one
The 220uf@16 volts same as a new but 220uf@35 volt replacement capacitor

The main filtering capacitor was not replaced because I did not have that was not too tall

Where the 220uf capacitor is some type of switching power...
