    DVD266U-RN Memory Issue

Hi Guys, I have purchased some Registered RAM for my Iwill DVD266U-RN thinking I would give it a little more life but the computer wont even boot with the memory installed. I thought that the board was compatible with Registered ECC Ram up to 4GB.

    Memory Specs:
    Samsung PC2100R-25331-N0
    M312L2828ET0-CB0
    1GB DDR PC2100 CL2.5 ECC
It is a double sided memory module.

The computer boots if I put in one stick of the registered ram and one stick of the non registered ram but only the non registered ram is recognized. There are no beeps coming from the motherboard speaker it just sits with all the fan turning with the registered ram only.

    Thanks in advance.

i really can't uderstand why would anybody buy such ram stick...
unless you need more than 4gb and it's server etc.

return that, get usual ram..you're just paying more and having comaptibility issues for no godo reason...

      Re: DVD266U-RN Memory Issue

Well thanks i4004, but I have purchased this ram from ebay. The reason why I bought such ram was because it would give me maximum memory capacity for this motherboard and secondly because from reading another thread, Tomcat suggested to use Samsung memory brand, hence the choice. This particular board is very unstable, I get VGA driver crashes constantly and overclocking is almost nonexistant. Makes me wonder if recapping it would do it justice.

        eBay... you gotta be careful.

I have an Inspiron 1500 series laptop on the bench right now.
Disk is dead. Pulled out the disk and it has "Bad" written on it.
Windows license tag and Dell Service Tags are both removed.

I sent a note to Dell, to see if I can warm my hands on this one...

I gave up on Registered memory. Outside of mission critical data servers, there is no justification for using it. I service a LOT of machines, and none of them have memory problems.

          Hello bgavin,

Fortunately the seller promised to refund me the memory, so I got lucky on this one. I mailed him the memory today and he said that he will test the memory and if it is bad then he will issue the full refund including shipping and the memory is good then he will refund the cost of the item only.

I'm going to buy 4x512MB of non registered non ecc ram and how that goes. I'm hoping that the regular DDR ram will be more compatible. Still makes me wonder why iwill claimed that the board would work with that kind of ram. Sigh....

Says it supports up to 4 gigs of registered/ecc or 4gigs of unbuffered/non-ecc ram.

Do you guys know if this motherboard will play nice with 2x1GB of Micron DDR? Or is it only good for 4x512MB? I apologize if I missed it in previous posts, but I wanted to know if it has worked for someone who has tried it.

According to Crucial that motherboard only supports low density RAM.
The 1GB RAM you bought was high density.

                  http://www.crucial.com/store/listpar...=Iwill&cat=RAM

                  Low Density:
                  1GB modules are 128Meg x 64 (non-ECC) or 128Meg x 72 (ECC)
                  512MB modules are 64Meg x 64 (non-ECC) or 64Meg x 72 (ECC)
These are all based on 32x8 chips.

The 1GB RAM you had were based on 64x4 chips.

The same issue will exist for 512MB modules.
You still need modules built with 32x8 chips.
                  .

Double verify EVERYTHING I said here because this is one of those things I can never remember and I have to look it up every friggin' time it comes up.

                    yes the old density problem.
beware ebay is full of high density 1gb dimms.they are cheap but few boards can use them.
you have the fussy about ram issue and likely bad caps.
i would recap it.its been a long while since i have seen one of these but i remember they were unstable till i recapped them and nothing was bulging/leaking.

Thanks a bunch, now at least I know what kind of ram to look for. This board would not take any ram I threw at it except some ram made by Samsung that I borrowed from my brother inlaw. I have placed a service request from Topcat to get the board recapped a week ago but still havent gotten a response. As soon as the quote comes in, this board is going in for new capacitors.

well i got a few memory sticks from a buddy of mine to try out. One is a kingston 512mb stick the other is a hynix 256mb stick, they didnt work together but when I took the kingston out the hynix worked but a keyboard erro kept coming up. Something like keyboard is locked, press key to unlock. I got the m/b manual out to check out where the pins are on the m/b for the keyboard lock and switched them to off and the computer wont post with neither of the sticks now. This is a pretty picky board. Any ideas what could have happened?

This is the flakies motherboard I ever worked with. After I got the keyboard problem out it wont post with any memory that I have. It used to work flawlessly with the samsung and now it wont even post. Does anyone else on this forum does recaps?

Check what make of caps they are.

The capacitors on this board by the voltage regulators are Hermei. I got this thing started by eliminating some opens with my tears and then out of the grief I lapped and polished both of the Tualatins 1.4's and their heatsinks which were both like crap. Now the temps are 15 degrees lower on one CPU and 19 on the other. The board posted afterwords for unknown reasons but would still not recognize the full amount of memory installed. Now I will do a fresh install of xp and if the VGA card finally decides to work it will be good. For some reason it is very hard to get the video cards to work on this motherboard. I have tried my 9600XT and HD3850 both with similar results. Video driver crashing, blank screen, sound stutter, very poor frame rates. Its a battle!!!

Not sure if this is the correct section, but I have a PS4 controller that I am trying to fix. It developed stick drift on the left stick and the usual simpler methods did not fix the problem.

So I went on eBay and ordered some replacement potentiometers. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174967976757 is where I got them from.

I took the green potentiometers off the replacement sticks and soldered them onto the PCB. Assembled the controller and ran some tests. The drifting was somewhat fixed (not fully in center, but way better than before). However,...

I have this EliteBook 840 G1 laptop that won't start - it blinks on the caps- and numlock buttons 3 times which indicate issue with the memory modules. On one of the memory slots of the motherboard, I can see some corrosion (?) and my guess is that it's creating a short. At first I figured I could just omit using this slot but it wont start either way - also tried other RAM sticks of course.

I've tried to see if I could clean it up, but the laptop remains unbootable. Can it be because it has caused issue elsewhere or because it's still shorting in the memory module?
