    Re: Two new servers

We still have one of these as our main SQL server at work :o

Dual 1ghz, 2 gig of RAM, I think. Not sure of the drives. It's slated to be replaced this year...

          Re: Two new servers

Pentium, have you considered a Compaq EVO w6000?
It is a dual 603 system. Normally with a single core Xeon.
I know it is not a server, but it does not need VRMs,and if you upgrade from the passive cooling system (a duct over the two heatsinks with a fan that pulls the hot air and send it to the outside of the case) with two heatsinks with fans, you'll be OK. I have one of these (wife's System currently) stuffed with 1GB of RDRAM and two 2.0/400MHz/512kb L2 Dualcore Xeons (4 Logical CPUs are visible in the device Manager under XP Pro). It is not a server, but it is a stable machine. It has onboard SCSI too, so you can use some of your drives.
          It is an option.

            Re: Two new servers

I have 2 of these. A dell poweredge dual 500 and a rack mount compaq that takes the 1.4s. They are LOUD AS FUCK. Both the drives and the fans. I hope they're going in another room because you seriously will have trouble sleeping.

If you can assemble them into something for free, good. However I would not spend any money on these semi-ancient servers. I set mine up, played with them for a little bit and then turned them off and stuffed them under my bench. The novelty wore off quick.

Seriously, you are getting like what, 90 gigs out of the drives? Are those 10k drives faster than ata100 or sata? The raid is nice but all of the drives probably have a ton of hours on them.

Do what eG said and get a dual board. You will get way more use out of it.

You want a dual socket 604 IBM Z-pro intellistation board? Accepts up to ddr-400 (buffered ECC or non buffered non ECC,) accepts xeons up to 3.2ghz (any with the 533mhz bus or slower, basically.)

                      I'd sell it cheap

If it will fit a w6000 case, I'm interested.

Among other things, I want to make a near bulletproof dedicated gaming server. The Proliant 1600 just won't cut it for Garry's mod or Half-Life 2 Deathmatch, especially since I also plan on running other things like Folding@home to notch myself up on the Team Badcaps (49813) rankings.

Cannot run 24 hours on end due to noise. Plus P3's math co-processor is weak vs a C2D based chip.

Build a small box of C2D like retail E2200, two sticks of 1GB DDR2 800 for 2GB, P35 chipset micro-atx plus HD3650 ATI video card and a 320GB SATA will not set you back more than 300. Much quieter, powerful on folding, and game-capable/server.

                                      Hello all,
as a beginner electronics hobbyist, after a few years I would like to place another post on this Forum section, given that I did not succeed in finding any useful advice among the other posts.

Over the last years, I have been using a PowerEdge Dell Server with two redundant PSUs, namely the 750W F750E-S0 ones (aka 06W2PW). Unfortunately, last summer one of them failed (perhaps owing to an overheating), and the server had for working to take into account the other one only. Of course I opened and tried to troubleshoot the failed PSU, but each cap I tested seemed to...

Last year I bought a server. It's worked fairly well but had some issues. Some pcie slots didn't work and Xeon v4 is a bit slow and missing AVX 512. Came to realize that the next version up, with skylake uses mostly the same chassis.

A board popped up on ebay one day being sold for parts. A working board like this is over a grand at best. This particular one was about $125 and I decided to gamble.

At first it seemed simple enough. According to the description it looked like some mechanical damage.

Found the missing 560uf cap and thought I was...

Samsung UN65JU67ODFXZA Version TD01 Schematic and Parts List

The TV is a Samsung UN65JU67ODFXZA Version TD01. I replaced the power source board and the TV is now working, but I decided to try and troubleshoot the old board to fix at the component level. Trying to get a schematic and a parts list has proven to be an issue. Trying on my own, I can't tell you how many times my Norton security has flagged sites as "malicious". I ordered a service manual from ServiceManuals.net, paid $16.99 and got 66 pages of everything BUT schematics and component parts list! Can anyone steer me in the right direction? Some of the surface mounted component parts...

I thinking about some central LAN file server, on where I can put some files from other devices, or access to them, and maybe play some movie without download...

I never study this, but when I see that freenas need few gigabyte of ram to recommended working, some wiered partition, I wonder if I miss somewhat in the midletime...
