    Re: SuperMicro Server Systems

    I thought this would be pretty self-explainatory, but I guess nobody bothered to use Google. There is only one SuperMicro motherboard which came in the 6014H-X8. Here's a link to the specs: http://www.supermicro.com/products/s...S-6014H-X8.cfm

    And since the description said they had 1MB L2, these must be the Nocona Xeon's.

      Re: SuperMicro Server Systems

      Why should I have to use google for someone that knows what info is needed and doesn't include it?

      And,, Where did you say "Supermicro" ??
      And,, 6014H-X8 is not a motherboard.

      The motherboard in that (assuming it has the original board) is X6DHR-X8G.
      ~~
      Which I would have recognized as a Supermicro Motherboard without google ... LOL

      Assuming 8x 1Gb sticks ~~ $120.00
      I've picked up similar Super Mobos for ~~ $35+ship ~~ $45.00
      CPU's ~$30-$40 each after ship x2 ~~ $75
      Drives can be had for $20 x4 ~~ $80
      ~~~~
      That's $320 assuming bargain prices and without even considering the rest of it.
      Note that without using a riser card it only has one slot.
      Doesn't matter if you are using it as configured.
      Also is an E-ATX board if that matters to you.
      It's NOT going to fit an ATX case if you are ever so inclined.
      ~~
      I scored a pair of these for $70 [for the pair] a few weeks ago.
      http://www.supermicro.com/products/m.../X6DVA-EG2.cfm
      ATX, supports 64-bit, supports dual cores.
      And a single of their little brother also for $35.
      http://www.supermicro.com/products/m...0/X6DVA-EG.cfm
      ATX, supports 64-bit, but no dual core support.
        And,, Where did you say "Supermicro" ??
        The model of the system, if Google'd, would have shown anyone that it's the model number of a SuperMicro 1U system.
        And,, 6014H-X8 is not a motherboard.
        You're right, it's not. That's why I said, "There is only one SuperMicro motherboard which came in the 6014H-X8.
        Note that without using a riser card it only has one slot.
        Ah, so that's why those slots look so close together in the little picture?
        Anyway, so the bottom line is that they are not a great price, correct? I asked them days ago if they could lower the price at all, and they said if I bought 5+ they could. Haha!
          Re: SuperMicro Server Systems
          "blowing out a bunch of 6014H-X8" seemed to me to be talking about some home brewed in-house build. - Why would I used google?
          It's a fair/reasonable price I think IF you want to use it as is.
          Definitely not over priced but not like a blow-out sale price either.
          It's semi-sorta on the proprietary side for my taste but if you want 1U/2U that's how it goes.
          If you do go for one make sure that riser is included.
          Might be a bugger to find one if not.
            Re: SuperMicro Server Systems
            Eh, I decided to let it go. The only good thing was that it had 8GB of RAM. I never see 1U's on craigslist with that much ram. They always have 1 or 2, rarely 4, and it's amazing to see 8.
            I don't really play games on my PC anymore so I'm just looking for something that has tons of ECC RAM and lets me do well in things like GIMP, Acrobat, Photoshop, maybe things like ORCAD (lol yeah right) etc. I mean, I like my little Tualatin servers, but they're certainly not fast.
              Re: SuperMicro Server Systems
              RAM is pretty cheap now.
              Even ECC.
              Or maybe it's just that I'm old enough to remember paying $175 for 8Mb RAM.
              Yes, that's an M.
                Supermicro Server Power Distributor board
                by shlomim412
                Hello everyone
                working on a supermicro server PDB
                i attach a photo of how it looks
                it suddenly died and the symptom is when pressing power on it sends a brief dc voltage and imediatly shuts down.
                fan spins briefly and stops.
                the power supply connected to it is working tested for sure (tested on another good pdb)
                cannot find a short anywhere on the board, capacitors visually seem to be ok.
                standby voltage is present (5v) also vdd to the power ic chip is present (also 5v).
                any help would be apreciatted!
                thanks...
                Got in way over my head with Supermicro server board and upgrade.
                by FeerBaron
                Last year I bought a server. It's worked fairly well but had some issues. Some pcie slots didn't work and Xeon v4 is a bit slow and missing AVX 512. Came to realize that the next version up, with skylake uses mostly the same chassis.
                A board popped up on ebay one day being sold for parts. A working board like this is over a grand at best. This particular one was about $125 and I decided to gamble.
                At first it seemed simple enough. According to the description it looked like some mechanical damage.
                Found the missing 560uf cap and thought I was...
                Troubleshooting of redundant F750E-S0 Dell PowerEdge Server
                by omega
                Hello all,
                as a beginner electronics hobbyist, after a few years I would like to place another post on this Forum section, given that I did not succeed in finding any useful advice among the other posts.
                Over the last years, I have been using a PowerEdge Dell Server with two redundant PSUs, namely the 750W F750E-S0 ones (aka 06W2PW). Unfortunately, last summer one of them failed (perhaps owing to an overheating), and the server had for working to take into account the other one only. Of course I opened and tried to troubleshoot the failed PSU, but each cap I tested seemed to...
