i would like to see that "spyware-free" version running through a machine running wireshark.
not saying m$ are lying, but they are liars!

how do they deal with the fact that cortana is not speech recognition, but just a streaming audio-host that is processed by m$/NSA?
unless it's actually missing from the corp version - they still have you in the Matrix - neo.

No, it's on all four versions of 10. Not that it matters as it can be disabled.
It's not spyware, they are very clear about their data collection, just as Google are.

Re: The 2016 Operating System Thread

To get another datapoint here is stats from Techspot that I just pulled.
December 21 to December 27, stats are only desktop systems so comparable to the Netmarketshare numbers that where posted earlier.

            Code:
            Win7	39.8%
            Win10	24.0%
            Win8.1	10.4%
            Mac OSX 8.7%
            WinXP 8.2%
            Linux 3.7%
            Win8 2.4%
            Vista 1.8%
            ChromeOS 0.4%
            Win2K 0.1%
            Others 0.5%
Browser stats from same dates and also only desktop systems:

            Code:
            Chrome	50.9%
            Firefox	26.5%
            IE	10.2%
            Safari 4.2%
            Edge 3.1%
            Opera 2.6%
            Others 2.5%

For those that use Cortana maybe. Those that don't they aren't and those that disable it aren't.

Re: The 2016 Operating System Thread

i'v done the last option, only over a longer range with pro-gear - i can go about 1km into someones router.
i'v also proxied through unix servers in uni's

i wouldnt use a commercial vpn because i'm pretty sure they or their owners are mostly compromised.
as for tor, what's the point if most of the nodes are government controlled?
it's all being logged - specially in germany.

what's needed is a p2p vpn that encrypts the packet, smashes it into small bits, then sends the bits via different routes.
if you wrote that you would be shutdown or framed for something or just plain killed - i'm 100% sure of that.

btw, i still dont buy those stats, Linux v osx is totally unbelievable.
people who make these tables need to state the data collection method.

osx - patched installs aside, must be on apple hardware,
there are far more people running linux than people buying imac's

i'm assuming they arent including tablet/phone versions btw.
but if they are then it's even more off.
there are FAR more android tablets, phones and even car systems and smart-tv's than there are iphones and ipads.
not that i'm a big fan of either.

The survey is a crock in terms of representing global OS distribution.
But it probably is accurate for all of the gaming PCs that have Steam on them.

Not bright for those of us who know/remember the older computer days where "your" PC was truly yours.
But for OS makers and software developers, the future probably IS going to be bright - and by that I mean more profitable... at least for a while.
Even the car industry is going this route with all of the computerized crap inside cars. I think they really are trying to make i-Robot cars a reality.

I think I gave up on Steam a long time ago. Actually, I just tried it on two spare PCs a few weeks ago, just out of curiosity (was trying to see if anyone still plays HL2 Deathamtch online, which is still one of my favorite "mindless" FPSs). But nope - Steam made both of those PCs crash with a blue-screen. My guess would be, this happens because I don't have the latest drivers for my video card. Funny, because the bootleg no-Steam version of the game (which I keep for benchmarking purposes) works fine on both of those PCs.

Oh well, I Steam-mopped those PCs , and everything is back to normal.
I also heard kaboom cleaner works very well on Tiles!

Sorry, I couldn't resist the silly puns here .

governments in the developed world are calling it the drive to become a "smart nation". they are trying to cook up things like driverless cars, driverless trains, driverless bikes, driverless lorries and trucks; technology assisted productivity improvements aka robots flipping burgers etc.; fully automated production lines (robots making robots); virtual and augmented realities for work, recreation and entertainment e.g. a fully computerized anime pop singer with computerized sexy female voice hotter than any female voice u ever heard. u no longer need a human singer; among many other things. almost like they are trying to make humans obsolete.

i totally gave up when they announced and talked about all that sheet. if u cant beat 'em, join 'em! so i'd like a driverless gf. may i?

it's worth remembering that throughout history when governments have created too much unemployment they have solved it by cooking up a big war to thin out the people.

on the bright side, people these days are better educated, so a lot will go straight for the bankers and related scum before they will go into another country for the bastards.

i am just waiting for a national callup with all the demonised and pissed-off young people being given weapons - lets see who they get pointed at!

Win10 as it 'happened' and by the time I tried to go back to 7 it had mysteriously gobbled up the space used for backup. Win7 at work and Centos6 tootling along at home.

security - real security, does not come from microsoft.
                                      malware-bytes etc.

However bugs they initially created are better fixed by them - if they have a buffer overflow problem, it's better they fix that than have antivirus make sure that overflow does not get exploited. These would be simply bandages over a real problem.
