Hello,
We have an internal LG BT30N Blu-Ray burner on our PC. It isn't recognized in Windows 10. It doesn't show up under Computer, no burning programs recognize the drive, no video players that we've tried (including VLC) recognize the drive. We can boot off Live Discs and we can see the drive in Linux and eject it. There's no Upper or Lower filters, the registry has the device key for EnumDevice set to 1 or whatever it is. It just does not work in Windows 10. It worked fine in Windows 7. Under Device Manager, it shows up under Other devices.
If we double click the device in Device Manager and go to the Details Tab and then Device instance path, it shows:
SCSI\DISK&VEN_&PROD_\4&2744D441&0&010000
Notice how VEN and PROD ID's are blank. We called Microsoft who said it was an LG problem and that they no longer provide drivers for Blu-Ray players in 10. So we called LG, and the phone support person said they're aware of the problem and should have a fix by the end of October. Seeing how we can't even burn discs, we decided to contact them again and this is the response we got:
Hi Kenneth,
Thank you for contacting LG Home Entertainment Email Services!
We are sorry for the incorrect information given to you by our department. That info is for LG monitors only.
For optical disc drives, there is no available software driver for this unit because it is plug n' play device. Meaning, upon plugging the device to your computer, it should automatically load its native driver to detect external devices.
If it's not doing that, please register the unit on the operating system manually or reload its native driver for detecting external device. If you don't know how to, please call Microsoft for assistance or click the link below for tutorial.

I hope this information would be helpful in addressing your concern. Should you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us again via Email, Live Chat, or Phone by calling 1-800-243-0000.
Thank you for choosing LG and have a wonderful day!
Sincerely,
Tom

My question is simple. Was the tech support person that we talked too correct in saying that it's a problem and they're working on a fix or was Tom, the one who e-mailed me, correct in saying it's a plug-in-play device and should just work and essentially, there is no problems with these drives and they're not actually working on fixing anything?
It's a bit frustrating. Thanks!
