    Opinions about HPT372 vs SiS961 vs HPT370

I'm setting up a PC for my sister using a Soyo P4S Dragon Ultra motherboard. It has an Sis645 northbridge, SiS961 southbridge and a HPT372 RAID controller. I'm not interested in the RAID feature, it only uses a single 80GB Seagate 7200.7 hard drive. However, I can still use the HPT372 to run a single drive.

Does anybody have opinions about which controller (SiS961 vs HPT372) is more reliable for controlling the hard disk? I just want to minimize the risk of corruption. Both are capable of the ATA100 mode which the drive utilizes.

Also, how is the HPT370? I'm thinking about ditching this board for a (slower) AMD761 board, which happens to have a 686B and HPT370 on it.

    Thanks for any opinions.

Drive SMART status not showing up through RAID controller?
    by canadaboy25
    Hey guys,

I have an Asus M5A99FX Pro R2.0 motherboard with AMD RAIDXpert. I set up a 1000GB RAID1 array on it. This was about 8 years ago. Every once in a while, a power outage or something would knock one drive offline and degrade the array. After a reboot the drive would be back online and it would rebuild just fine.

Recently, a drive dropped offline and the array became degraded. I figured it was no big deal and rebooted then set it to rebuild overnight. The next morning I took a look and both drives had dropped offline at 70% rebuild. Uh oh.

    I rebooted...

Dell Precision T7910 no bios, no post after applying SAS/RAID setup
    by bmxlovah
    Hi,

My Dell Precision T7910 died after enabling onboard SAS controller and applying RAID settings. There were no hardware changes between working and not working state, only setup (via bios -> controller settings). After applying settings and reboot PC turns on, flash leds (normally) but there's no further action, it just stays on with no graphics and no keyboard led's on. There's no Dell logo, nothing. I've tried resetting bios by jumper, replacing cpu's, replacing ram, removed/replaced cmos battery, disconnecting all drives etc. I've also dumped .bins from mobo chips SLI1 (16...

    Abit ST6-Raid repair
    by tbalint3
    Hello All,

I am trying to repair an old Abit ST6-R motherboard.

    The symptoms are the following:
I got it in a non-working state. I was told that it sometimes turned on, but many times just the CPU fan was spinning and no other signs of life, the board didn't POST, and now it doesn't POST at all.

It was full of bulged electrolytic capacitors, so I replaced all of them with new Low-ESR ones, but it didn't solve the problem.
If I install a CPU in the S370 socket, only the fans are spinning and no POST. There are no beep codes even if the RAM DIMMs...

Opinions on particular soldering iron tip maintenance product
    by kalemaroni
Has anybody tested this product? Posting this question on a Facebook tech group I'm in got a few responses like "that kind of thing corrodes the tips" and "just using normal solder paste is much better" so I'm not looking for generic responses like that, but rather, does anybody know for certain whether this exact product is good or bad for soldering iron tips?
