    Annoying power save problem

I've been having a slight problem with power save on my new system... I have it set to turn off the monitor after 15 minutes, but a lot of the time it will shut off for about 1 second, then come right back on. This is really annoying, since I'm trying to preserve the CRT on my 24" Sony monitor.

I've checked to see if it is the mouse causing it, and that was not the problem. What else should I check?

My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-M61P-S3 (I think), socket AM2.

    Re: Annoying power save problem

the constant on and off (heating and cooling) of the power saving is harder on a CRT than it is being on all the time. The21" and 24" FD trinitron tubes had problems with the focus rail detaching in the neck of the tube, so the cooling and heating is extremely harmful to them. With my old sony 24", I left it on all the time, never shut it off, even at night. It lasted over 3 years like that. I just used the plain black screen saver, which kicked in after 5 minutes of being idle.

I'll just use a normal screensaver then, either something all black or with very little graphics and a lot of movement.

My last 21" FD Trinitron is still going, despite having some screen burn form the taskbar and being a bit out of focus. I just wanted to keep the 24" in the best shape possible because I need it to last a few years. That is unless I can get a 25" or larger LCD with decent PQ for under $500 real soon

That replaced my last CRT monitor I owned (24" FD trinitron). No comparison. The LCD blows the trinitron away.

I use 15 minute timeout to DPMS OFF mode (and also blank screen saver after 3 minutes) on my 15" ADI monitor since it was new in 1999. It still works fine, although the contrast is becoming worse.

Which one was it? I get a list of several monitors from that link.

The two main reasons I still use CRT, are for contrast ratio (blacker blacks) and flexibility of resolution without loss of quality. How would you rate your new LCD for contrast ratio?

It's rated at 1000:1 CR, its the Acer 24" AL2423W monitor. blacks are black, best res is 1920x1200, and its absolutely gorgeous. 640x480 wasnt too great looking, but comparable to a crt, its not lacking. I played UT on a few times to test things out, no input lag, all the pretties turned on, and no complaints. There are better brands out there this size, but not in this price range. I can't even look at my 24" trinitron anymore, it gives me a headache, and there's nothing wrong with it, the LCD is just so much more crisp. I gave the trinitron away to a friend of mine who needed it.

When you first posted that link, it lead to the Acer 24" LCD. It also said that it was out of stock. Now it says that the link has been deactivated.

I just got a Samsung 24"LCD, but it cost a few more $$$ than the Acer. I use it for watching HDTV with my MythTV PC:

Although, now I see that there is a newer model that is cheaper.

Maybe they aren't carrying it anymore. I have a TV tuner in my PC, but it looked like crap even on a CRT (ATI TV Wonder pro PCI). A DVD is f'ing beautiful on this Acer, and games are also great. That Samsung is nice!! If this one bites the dust, that bad boy would be my next LCD purchase!!

Problem with LG Plasma 60PM6700 - Random power downs

I have an LG Plasma TV 60PM6700 for the past ~12 years.

In the last ~3-4 months I have been having some issues.
                    1. Problem: It started with random picture disappearing (sound still worked).
Frequency: Happened about once a week.
Solution: Had to turn off TV wait a few seconds before turning it on again.
                    2. Problem: Then it got worse and the TV started to shut down and when turning on the no picture just sound.
Frequency: Happened about once a week.
Solution: Had to turn off TV wait about 10-20 seconds and turn it on again to solve.
                    3. Problem: TV shuts down

When I reflash again the bios of hoaca388 the unit powers on and the unit lives!!! Hooray!! All voltage in the coil 3.3v, 5v and 6.7v indicate charging are all present. including the cpu voltage , EEPROM and GPU voltage the unit is now alive, normal screen booting to windows and log in screen until I power it off. Then the unit never goes on even when pressing the power button in the keyboard.. Voltage reading 19v main , 3.3v VCC in IT8225E-128 and EEPROM VCC 0 volt and the charging voltage 0 volt.

Try to trace the power switch button goin to the power switch IC PU8803 (APL3533AQBI-TRG)...

Hello, trying to fix C9 55 inch. I have pulled the back and all looks completely normal with nothing burnt so far. This is first time attempting to fix a tv so any help is appreciated.

Problem. I hit power button, red light on TV turns off and tries to turn on, no picture shows up and then shuts off. This occurred after house power turned on and off, not from a storm.

I have tested the power going from power supply to main board, all 12v and 20 volt readings are proper when I hit power button.

The power supply to t con is different story.

I have a lenovo ideapad 5 14itl05, board LA-K321P, That will only power up on Battery only, or with battery disconnected and power adapter only. If battery is connected and usb-c power plug connected. It only works on battery and will not charge. I can however force it to charge by connecting the battery from a disconnected state while the power USB c plug is powering the laptop.

Additionally....to add to this strange situation. The usb-c power plug ONLY works to power the laptop on one side when inserted into the boards power usb c plug. If you rotate it 180 degrees, the board gets...

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
                    by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...
