    ECS 661FX-M Bootblock??

    Hello Everyone,

Today I purchased an ECS 661FX-M motherboard that was deemed faulty by a customer and the owner of the store didn't have time to fix it at all. All he told me was that this motherboard was strange and he couldn't enter the BIOS.
I got it for only $10 thinking that I would be able to repair it.
When I got home, I plugged my CPU, RAM and AGP graphics card in (For some odd reason the onboard video doesn't work) and then I turned it on.

First I see the video BIOS (obviously this comes first) then the motherboard gives out a message.

    *Award Bootblock v 1.0
*Copyright (C) 2000 Award Software, Inc.

    *BIOS ROM Checksum error

    *Detecting Drive A: Media....

What does all this mean?? I already downloaded a BIOS from ECS (Only a .BIN file, nothing else) and it doesn't seem to work at all. I also adjusted the jumpers so that it didn't write protect the BIOS.

If I do that, all it comes up with is:

    *Media is 1.44MB

*Remove All Disks and Press any key to restart.

Does anyone know what all this means?? I can only guess that the previous owner of the board "attempted" to flash thier BIOS but failed somewhere.

Here is a link to the motherboard details: http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Pro...nuID=1&LanID=0

I think that this board is probably fixable but maybe I haven't done something correctly yet. Unfortunately the BIOS chip is soldered onto the board so I can't reprogram the BIOS chip.

    Thanks.

Make a bootable MS-DOS floppy, you can also use DR-DOS if you like, here is an image ready to be written:

      http://motherboards.mbarron.net/download/drdflash.exe

Now copy the bios BIN file to the floppy, along with the flash program (awdflash.exe)

Next create a text file called autoexec.bat in it write the command to flash the BIOS without user intervention:

      AWD865.exe fxm110.bin /py /cd /cp /cc /LD /sn /Wb

Make sure to use a known good floppy / drive and if possible run the system from a UPS, an incorrect flash will kill the BIOS and possibly also the award rescue bootblock!!!

After the flash has completed completely power off the system

Make sure you use a BIOS for your system!!! If it complains that it is the wrong BIOS but you are more than 100% sure that it is correct and have triple checked it 5 times add /f to the commandline (force flash, undocumented switch... very very dangerous!)

Hello kc8adu and Per Hansson, Thank You So Much!!!!

You guys helped me revive this motherboard back to life.... thanks for your help guys!!!!

Now it boots and works well. Even to make sure, I reflashed it twice to make sure everything was OK. Now I'm going to explore this motherboard to see what it has onboard etc.

        Thank You.

Help Disabling Flash Protection Range Registers on Lenovo P360 Tiny BIOS
            by abhorsen
            Hey guys,

Hope you all are doing well. I come here from Win-Raid because I am having issues disabling Flash Protection Range Registers so I can flash my BIOS from within Windows using Intel's IFW tool/using flashrom within Linux, however I cannot due to the above mentioned error.

Here is my thread on Win-Raid detailing the whole process I went through: https://winraid.level1techs.com/t/re...h-gen/95478/27

Essentially I managed to boot into Windows while shorting PINs 1+5 of my audio chip to disable the HAP bit...

Dell Optiplex 7010 micro bad BIOS flash?
            by mrrubik
            Hi folks,

I got a Dell Optiplex 7010 micro PC (Exact Model) with 8FC8 BIOS and locked out admin password. I attempted to remove the password by patching the BIOS via info from this thread: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...ssword-patcher
After flashing the patched the BIOS, the PC is unresponsive with a solid AMBER power LED (not documented in manual anywhere)

            Steps I took:
            1. Read BIOS with CH341a, verified hash twice
            2. Patched

Is it okay to flash stock bios onto the motherboard's BIOS?
            by AkaBukai
            Hi there,
            I have a 14" Lenovo Laptop (Flex 5 14ALC05) which has a boot issue.
The little LED on the power button is flashing slowly and nothing happen.
This unit do not have any BIOS button cell battery so I tried many times draining the power but it is still not powering on.

So I decided to flash the BIOS using a cheap programmer.
And I was successfully able to read the content (exactly 16MB file) which BTW is a WINBOND 74m12jwsiq (according to the package inscription - but detected as W25Q128FW in the software - IMSProg on Linux)

            I also...

Panasonic CF-20G0247VM BIOS Bad Flash Help

I usually try to figure these things out on my own but am asking for help now as I have been beating my head against a wall.

Backstory, I initially ended up with a CF20 Mk2 with a locked BIOS. I used aptio to read the BIOS and made the adjustments to the .rom file and attempted to write it back with aptio before reading other users problems with that setup. Well it bricked the BIOS go figure. Computer no longer boots, black screen. I found a clean BIOS on this forum but now I am having ME issues. So I would rather hand over the aptio dump(pre BIOS brick) and a hardware reader dump(post...
