depends. if you're going to load linux or BSD on it its worth it, if not apple doesn't support it anymore.

        Re: Aple PC?

You need to install a version of Linux made for a PowerPC CPU. You can find a link to Ubuntu's PowerPC version here:

        http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/12.04/release/

        Direct link:
        http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/1...op-powerpc.iso

As for ESPN3, that uses Flash. On Linux, Flash video relies mostly on the CPU, so that may be your limiting factor.

I remember putting ubuntu 8 on a G4. Could barely run firefox, video was terrible. G5 looks a bit beefier but still, good luck

                Re: Aple PC?

Thanks guys for your input;at this moment i'm kinda stuck, cause i only can log in as a guest ,i'm trying to get the admnistrator name and password from the person that gave me the Aple pc,i can't install anything cause it asks me the password, but i tried to download the Flash Player for Espn3 and it says the system doesn't support it anymore, also i put in any kind of DVD or CD and it just spits it out,so i don't know if it's a drivers problem or hardware fault!
i have linux op system on a USB stick but it seems one can't boot it up like you do in win or Linux Ops, can't get in bios set up to change the drive to boot
with the stick,in top of that if memo can't be upgraded at least to 1gb it's not worth it,as i said the memo is diferent from win ops?
at the moment i only can use it for internet, facebook,Utube and so on it runs smoothly for this.Anybody with the Knowledge of this system or owns one i would apreciate any thoughts and help.

No, it's the other way around. Adobe made flash for OSX PPC for a while... but for PPC lunux, no. Gnash and (if it still exists) lightspark are the only PPC linux flash plugins I know of...

If you have old versions of Photoshop, you may be able to use those Macs for that. But other than that, I don't know what else they would be useful for.

There's a G4 listed here on Craigslist. If the advertisement is still there in a few days, I might snatch it and then just reuse/refit the case with standard PC hardware. If there is one thing I like on these old Apple computers, it's the case design.

If you can, try to snare the half-clone cases made by Atech Flash. My Mianrig V2 is built in one... not even close to an exact clone, but a clone of the styling. If you were local, heck, I'd just give it to you (xeon guts and all) once my new build is done.

The computer store I works at sells iMac G5 computers for like $300... people love them, except they break down fairly often (outside of the 90 day warranty unfortunately)...
                                    Personally I think they're useless.

I retired from offering help on BCN, but I better help you since you followed something I recommended!

Those error messages are for your wireless. The Broadcom B43xx family of Linux drivers need firmware added to work. It can easily be added via the package manager. (but you need a wired internet connection)

Your real problem is the blank screen. This sounds like a video driver problem. Try to access a terminal screen by using a key combination of Ctrl+Alt+F1 through Ctl+Alt+F10. Usually the F2 or F7 combination is your "Desktop", which currently is blank.

If you can get a terminal prompt, you can login. Then we can look to see what went wrong.

Samsung QE55Q65B with shorted D001 diodes on panel board: Worth saving or not

                                          Hi

I have a Samsung QE55Q65B with a seemingly common problem: it turn off and back on after a few seconds, (sometimes more, and in rare instances works for hours). D001 on the left side of the panel is very hot. I may be able to remove it with a very fine iron, but i don't have the equipment to re-solder such small parts.

Is there a risk to run the tv without this diodes diodes? And is it worth to pay someone else to replace it. I read many people who ended up with bad lines after trying to remove/replace them, , or the panel failing in another way, so i want to weight...
