Electronic fuel gauges in battery packs may not be where you expect it!

As far as you may know, many laptop, notebook and even netbook battery packs (especially lithium ion) have an electronic fuel gauge inside them.
This means that when charged up, the battery pack can be quickly swapped without having to recalibrate the electronic fuel gauge inside them.

But this is not so with the Asus Eee PC (and possibly others), which has the electronic fuel gauge inside the Eee PC itself and not the battery pack.

I had to advise a client when swapping battery packs in such a unit to leave the unit turned off while being plugged in for up to about 72 hours to recalibrate the electronic fuel gauge.

My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

Automotive fuel gauge and sending unit issue

This is a common issue for some hotrodders needing to replace their old tired fuel tank sending units with a replacement and matching it to a fuel gauge they wish to use in their cluster.

Item #1 Fuel gauge - mechanical type with sweeping needle. The resistance range of the gauge is 30-240 ohms. At E (empty) the gauge expects to see 30 ohms and at F (full) it expects to see 240 ohms.

Item #2 Sending unit in tank - mechanical type sweeping arm with a dimmer-style wire coil and wiper. The resistance range of the sending unit is 2-36 ohms. Some are more like 0-30 if...

This is a new item at Electronic GoldMine that has arrived within the last few weeks

General Question - Rebuilding Lithium Ion Battery Packs on Mobile Devices/Laptop

Hi guys,

Just a general question. Usually on mobile devices/laptops the battery pack consists of lithium ion cells with their +/- tabs welded onto the controller IC. I'm wondering, in general if it can be assumed that one can find a replacement lithium ion cell, is it ok to simply re-use the old controller IC in an attempt to re-build the pack? Or is that controller somehow paired to the cells from the factory?

From my experience it sometimes seems to be hit or miss. Not sure if this is true, but sometimes it's almost as if the controller IC will go to a failsafe...

the problem of this notbook is powering on but black screen, when i verifing the motherboard i found TWO electronic component not found! AS PICTURES BELOW please help
