not sure what u mean. those 3 drives are performing normally within spec.

the blue 500gb u have is a 500gb single platter drive so its faster than ur 1tb black which is the three platter version that uses three 334gb platters.

the black 2tb uses four 500gb platters and it was the previous flagship drive so it shud be the fastest. it *was* the flagship drive until the black 4tb came out recently.

yeah the 2tb is the fastest.
i was just thinking about if i should move my os from the 500gb to the 1 tb seeing as i just got it cleared off and the 500 could use a good erasing.

why not the 2tb since its the fastest? 2tb is fine as the boot drive. without being long winded, only 2.5tb and larger drives need some funny stuff to be done to get them to work as a boot drive lol~

ive always had my os on a separate hard drive then my data i used to have a 69gb raptor + 4 other hard drives if i had the money i would just buy a 500gb black for my os.
then in 2009 got the 1tb to replace all those and later started useing the 500gb blue that i originally got for my mom and step dads computer.

oh my. since that's the way u set up ur storage subsystem previously then u shud have stuck with it but change the raptor to a 64gb or 128gb ssd. can get a 128gb ssd for slightly over $100. that wud be so much better for ur os and boot times instead.

i have stuck with it minus having a modern raptor minumum space i would want is 500GB 128gb is too small thats why i had the 500gb blue performance wise its ok.

                            by federalhouse
                            Hi everyone,

I'm in need of assistance with a Dell Precision 5820 Tower. The BIOS is locked with "Dell Security Manager," preventing access to the HDD-1 hard drive.

                            **Background:**

I recently purchased this Dell Precision 5820 Tower from a recycler who salvages equipment from abandoned office spaces. The computer was left behind by its previous owner and was password locked. Given that it can run Windows 11, I saw this as an opportunity to upgrade my setup.

                            **What I've Tried So Far:**

PC case - Hard drive rails
                            by tmcw
A friend gave me his old PC case (with MB, and PSU), but no hard drive rails, he said he only used the 2.5" SSD spot inside, and used an external hard drive for data. He said that he'd have a look for the supplied rails, but I doubt he'll find them.

So I was wondering if case manufacturers used any type of standard 3.5" hard drive rail?

I'm used to the various Dell hard drive caddies or rails (and HP and Lenovo to a lesser extent), or el cheapo cases where you screw through the frame to fix the drive.

Now, the case is a CiT Gaming Case, and...

bug of the month: write caching setting for the hard drive in device manager
                            by ChaosLegionnaire
i recently bought a new wd re4 2tb with 2014 datecodes. when i got around to testing it tho in victoria hd tester, the write speed was very slow at 14 mb/s with a 256 sector transfer size. when i increased the transfer size to 1024 sectors, the write speed increased slightly to 44 mb/s. read speeds and sector verify speeds were fine and at normal speeds.

so i just ass-u-med the drive's poor performance was due to it being an advanced format drive and i was using it on winxp. when i tried cloning my system disk to this wd re4 2tb drive and writing to it in linux, the write speed...

Repairing a Seagate hard drive with damaged logic board
                            by karto95
                            Hello everyone,

I'm currently facing an issue with my Seagate hard drive that has a damaged logic board. I've obtained a replacement logic board from a donor hard drive, but unfortunately, I'm unable to recover the BIOS of the original board due to damaged firmware. I'm wondering if it's possible to make the hard drive work with this donor logic board.

I have a CH341A programmer, so I'm hoping that it can be useful in this situation. I've attached the BIOS file .bin of the donor board for reference.

If anyone has any suggestions or experience with this...
