    HP dx6100 Pre-video memory error

    Hello!
Trying to figure out if this problem is due to bad caps or something else. Quite an old MB, P4, DDR memory, IDE and SATA PCI-E etc. It gives a blank screen and the power LED flashes red five times, once every second, followed by a two second pause. This indicates memory error, according to the manual (should also beep 5 times which it doesn't).

Have tried reseating memory, replacing with working units from other computers and staring with no memory at all, same result. No visible bulging caps, seems to be mostly Rubycon. Anyone with ideas?

In the past, a blinking LED without bleeps, at least on a Compaq DeskPro 386 means that one of the power cables shorted.

In my case, it was because a spliced strand was touching the case.
