  • HP dx6100 Pre-video memory error

    Hello!
Trying to figure out if this problem is due to bad caps or something else. Quite an old MB, P4, DDR memory, IDE and SATA PCI-E etc. It gives a blank screen and the power LED flashes red five times, once every second, followed by a two second pause. This indicates memory error, according to the manual (should also beep 5 times which it doesn't).

Have tried reseating memory, replacing with working units from other computers and staring with no memory at all, same result. No visible bulging caps, seems to be mostly Rubycon. Anyone with ideas?

  • Re: Acer Aspire no display, ok external monitor

    Hello!
Just out of curiosity, how can it work fine on an external monitor with a GPU in need of reballing? I would have thought that there would be same problems with display on external display if the GPU needed reballing. Please enlighten me!

    Hello!
I had a similar fault with my fathers Acer 1522, the backlight would stay on for few seconds after starting the laptop then die. On an external screen all was displayed ok. I first changed the inverter but it did not help. I then took the LCD apart, and believe it or not, there was a cold solder in one end of the CCF lamp. After resoldering the lamp it all worked fine.

Have you tried with an external screen? That will be a good start to rule out any other faults....

  • Re: Laptop Motherboard Repair

    Hello!
I have a problem with an Acer 3610 motherboard. There is no video on the LCD, only on an external screen. I have tested with two different sets of LCDs and inverters and they are tested ok with a similar motherboard. If I connect an external screen, even without a keyboard connected, the image is displayed on the external screen after 1 second.

It seems to me that the system checks if the LCD is connected, fails to detect one, and then routes the display to the VGA-port instead. I have tried to drive the inverter with an...
