Make a small amp a pre amp?

I want to add a line out to my tv, spliced into the tv's internal speakers so i can use a 2.1 pc speaker system.

How do i get the signal low enough so it doesnt distort the pc speaker inputs?

There is no headphone socket on my tv, There is a line out but it is a set volume and not controlled by the tv's volume.

You could connect your line-out jack to the input of the speaker amp.

Yes i could, but the line out is not controlled by the volume of the tv.

Hence why I say "the line out has a set volume"

I want to be able to turn it up with the tv remote.

I meant that you would splice your line-out jack into the input of the amp that powers the TV's internal speakers. That should give you the ability to control the volume unless the volume is controlled by the amp IC itself. You could use a jack with switches inside it and wire it so the internal speakers are disabled when something is connected to the jack, just like the headphone jack on cheap computer speakers.

Speaker hot out feed one end of 150 Ohms another end is connected to one end of a 10 Ohms (so this 10 Ohms will be in series), another end of the 10 Ohms will go to ground. Then you will take the output that is across this 10 Ohms to be fed into your line level input of your amplifier. You will need two set of the resistors, 1/2W should be more than enough.

Google "Line Level Converter." They use this in cars so you can use aftermarket amps and speakers, but retain the factory deck.
