Firmware updates via USB and network

When doing a firmware update on a wireless router, it should ONLY be done via a wired connection.
And with firmware updates via USB, the device should be DIRECTLY connected to the host (PC), not via a USB hub.

I think a number of update problems (even failures too!) are the result of not doing the above.
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

Re: Firmware updates via USB and network

It's not the transfer method, it's the implementation.

Transfer is just transfer, nothing (but lack of memory or storage space for the new firmware) stops the firmware in the router to do a hash/crc check the determine if the firmware was uploaded correctly... before actually burning it permanently.

      by rumpumpel1
Lenovo System Update offered me an update for the firmware of the Folio keyboard for my X12 Detachable Gen 1. The update got stuck and after 20 minutes I switched off the laptop. Since then, the keyboard and touchpad have been without function. Does anyone know how I can revive it?

      Sony KDL-46HX850 Can't upgrade/update firmware
      by dkneyle
Diagnosed this TV as having a failed main board which I've replaced with one from a KDL 55HX850. They are (supposedly) the same board.

Being 'Smart TV' it requires a firmware reboot when you swap out boards such as T-Con or main board. It starts with a black screen and flashing yellow and green LEDS, indicating it needs that firmware boot. The procedure described all over the web is to put the software into the root directory of a FAT32 formatted USB drive and it should load that up once plugged into USB1 port. But not for me. I can see the LED on the USB chip flash for about...

Hi, recently after Bios update my laptop went into Intel ME Firmware Recovery Mode which makes microphone not detected and very long Windows loading time. I repeated Bios upgrade to no avail. I even replace Bios chip to no avail. I suspect Bios corruption.
