    Epox EP-9NPA Ultra MOSFET

Hello, I have a Problem with one of my Mosfets on an Epox Board.

The Problem ist, I brought the board from Ebay, and the Mosfet is more than a little bit damaged.

I just soldert this thing out, but the problem is I don`t know where to get a replacement part.

I marked the part on this picture:

    http://www.meister-eck.de/ep.jpg

This is written on the part:

    K3918
CG 58 (or maybe CG S8)

Would be great if you can help me with that.

    It should be 2SK3918:

The 2SK3918 is made by NEC, and is a proprietary P/N. If NEC parts aren't readily available to you, you could cross it to parts from IR, Fairchild, or STMicroelectronics. The key parameters are: V(DSS) = 25V; I(Continuous) Max = 48A; R(D-S On) = .0075 ohm max.; and C(iss) = 1300pF. 25 or 30V would suffice; somewhat higher than 48A would be OK; lower than .0075 ohm would be OK; less than 2000pF would probably be OK, lower than 1300pf would be preferred.

Slightly off-topic, but what are those things on the motherboard that look like miniature PCI slots? There are three of them near the ATX power connector.
You know there's something wrong when you open your PC and it has vented Rubycons...

Think they're PCI Express x1 slots. That's a PCIe x16 video card slot, so...

Yes, useless PCI express slots as there are almost no cards you can put in.

well, I`ve tried to find the SK3918 nearly everywhere, or something similar, but it looks like that there is no german shop that has this mosfet. Does anyone know a good shop in Europe/Germany that has such Mosfets?

sk3918 is a rca sk replacement and likely an entirely different part than you need.

Try to look at www.reichelt.de, www.pollin.de or www.segor.de
You may find some compatibel devices there.

www.rsonline.de will have may be more choice, but a little more expensive.

I received your PM, Mithras, and it looks like the best choice through Digi-Key here in the US would be D-K P/N IRF3709ZS-ND. It's gate capacitance is a bit high, 2130pF. On the other hand, its R(DS On) is lower, so the extra losses from the higher gate capacitance may be balanced by the lower (I^2)(R) loss.

Digi-Key doesn't list it, but Fairchild's FDB8870 looks to be close to the original - about the same R(DS On), 1700pF gate capacitance, rated for slightly higher current.

As it's not exact replacement, I'd replace all 3 MOSFETs so they will be the same.

Good point, Rainbow. In PMs I suggested several other parts, two from STMicro and two from Infineon. I wasn't aware, when I posted above, that Mithras is from Germany. STMicro and Infineon might be more available to him than IR (OTOH, he has a contact in the US, hence the D-K//IR recommendation above).

If anyone is curious, I could post the STMicro and Infineon P/Ns I suggested in the PMs.

I tried to use this method:

                                  Testing an N-channel MOSFET:

Step 1: Discharge the Gate (turn off the MOSFET)
Place the black probe (COM) on the Source (S) and the red probe on the Drain (D). The multimeter should show no continuity (high resistance or "OL" – open line).
Then, touch the black probe to the Source (S) and the red probe to the Gate (G). This discharges any stored charge in the Gate, turning the MOSFET off.

Step 2: Charge the Gate (turn on the MOSFET)
Now, place the red probe on the Gate (G) and the black probe on the
