    Flash Drive Question.

Greetings! Is broken flash drive can be fixed? because I found a flash drive in our house but when I plug it in it says the device driver was not successfully installed.

Usually not. Is this a generic drive or is there an actual brand?

Open it up and see if theres any broken-off smd parts, or anything else suspicious. I once literally saw one of the two memory chips partially off. Resulting in a 'drive not formatted' cause the first memory chip had the mft an most of the data. Was never able to get it fixed, too small

Despite that message, is the device still recognised by the OS?

I have a very old USB flash drive that shows that message in Vista when inserted, but it still works perfectly well.

This message has appeared several times for me over the years. Usually reinserting it fixed it. Have no idea why the message came up to start with.

In some, the weak point is the soldering of the USB connector to the circuit board.

Try it on a different computer, could be an OS issue or dirty USB socket contacts. I once had a hub I almost tossed out when all it needed was a bath.
