Hitachi GST unveils perpendicular HDDs

TOKYO - Hitachi Global Storage Technologies has started shipping
perpendicular 2.5-inch hard disk drives, seeking to break through the
capacity ceiling of longitudinal drives.
Its first 2.5-inch product family, dubbed as Travelstar 5K160, has a single
platter with 80 Gbytes of capacity, or two platters each with 40 Gbytes of
capacity. The platter's areal density is 131.5 Gbits per square
inch.

That really amazes me.
What's next? A small glob of bio matter shaped like a brain lobe?
I've been into the little drives and can occasionally free up a sticky head or disk
and was aware of the half size 2.5 but it is amazing technology.
