Don't worry. It ain't plugged in to the motherboard. It's there because it looks better than a hole. Ive been considering replacing it with a card reader.

sony makes a good card reader for this, and it only runs $15 USD (i bet you can get them in the AU too)

As you can see in my signature, The case on my main PC is an Antec 1200. I got it for only $100 because the top doesn't stay on. It only had two very small screws to hold it on the lugs they scre into snapped when my boss picked it up by the top. It's good looking and has been serving me well for the two years I've had it, but i fired my PC up yesterday and I got that 'growl' from the top rear fan. So I replaced it with a cheap no-name fan which I scavenged from a dead PSU and added a few LEDs to and the growl is gone now, but after removing the sticker and rubber seal from the old fan it's a sleeve bearing with NO oil. Nice job antec. You sell a $300 case with 6 cheap and nasty fans, don't put any oil in the bearings AND use two tiny screws to hold the top on, even when the case by itself weighs 15KG!!!! antec

It's excusable for a cheap $30 case, but when the case usually costs $300, I think it's only fair to expect half decent fans and a case that doesn't fall apart when you pick it up. Again, antec

EDIT: It it's any consolation, at least my new fan does look a bit better (it's the top one in the second attachment)

Nice, but you're forgetting that I've never used the F Word and wish to keep it that way. I think this is a bit more suited to me.

As for a card reader, I know about the sony ones. We sell them at work. I might grab one next time we have one in stock.

I have one of the early ones, with no sdhc fw upgrade compatibility... now if i could only de-yellow the originally white bezel...

it's one of the later ones. I've updated it to SDHC support with the link you posted in that thread and it didn't kill it
The only drawback is that it doesn't support media info, i.e. it shows up as a generic card reader and doesn't show drive names, card models (for CF) or anything.

For example, my old external cardreader recognized the 1GB Sandisk CF card that's in there on the photo as "SDCF-1024" (same as if it was in a CF-IDE adapter, the BIOS recognizes it with the same name), while this one doesn't show anything for the name.

There are multiple names for the same thing.
Mitsumi FA404 (also FA-404, FA404M ..)
Teac FD-CR7 and FD-CR8

For some reason, the Mitsumi version seems to be common in the US, while the Teac version is common here.. doesn't really matter though, as the only difference is the sticker and in some cases the top cover.

Which means they don't need the [fairly expensive] high concentration liquid Hydrogen Peroxide at all...
Adding more "Oxy laundry booster" to water and using no liquid H2O2 should achieve the same solution at less cost and with less trouble.

Interesting. maybe I will have to get some oxy clean and give it try... I have some banged up microsoft mice that would bee good testbeds...

You do need the UV from lights or the sun.

I'm planning on trying it as a bath rather than a jell this spring when the sun is a little stronger.
As like a clear plastic tub on a pallet in my VERY sunny AZ back yard.
