    Graphics corruption Problem

My computer recently started displaying little pixelated gaps in the display. Upon opening it to inspect it seems some moisture has found it's way inside because there is rust around the fan grills and I/O connectors.

It is an Intel D865PERL which has only recieved moderate use over the last year but it has a row of those yellow Fujitsu solid polymers near the cpu which have been identified as badcaps.

Could these be causing the graphics corruption after only a year of little use? All other hardware has been eliminated as a possible cause. Any clues as to how I should go about diagnosing the fault.

    Re: Graphics corruption Problem

I put computers on boats so I see a lot of moisture problems.
What wasthe source of the moisture?
    Rain, airconditioner, condensation, salt water?
If it's salt, you may find green and brown residue around a graphics chip which usually can be cleaned up with a tooth brush.
Look carefully at the graphic memory or main memory for signs of corrosion.

      Re: Graphics corruption Problem

To be honest I do not know. The only possible source of moisture I can see is some airborne mist from the garden reticualtion system at the rear of the house but that is a stretch.

Have cleaned up the whole board including graphics chip as best I can.

I have tried using an old s3 trio PCI card on a fresh XP install and the corruption does not occur but instead whenever I go anywhere near the display properties a different problem occurs. The computer locks up completely and I have yet to find a way around this. This does not happen with an AGP card.

A bit of a shame really. The board is otherwise functional.

Does the bios have a setting for AGP or PCI graphic priority?
        Memory timing?
Not unusual for an s3 card to have incompatable driver but sounds like you've narrowed the problem down.
May also check that board supports bus mastering and there are no conflicting devices.
Your chipset drivers may not be loaded?

Yeah, I set it to PCI.
XP spat out a driver no worries.
          Modern board - 865 chipset.
          Chipset drivers already installed.
Think it's secrewed dude but thanks for asking.
Unless it's those little yellow caps screwing things up - I dunno?

Just to top it off, the replacement board I bought off Ebay turned out to be a dud too!

Try another card, some S3 Trios are known to cause problems with some chipsets - I've seen random hangs with S3 Trio64V+ (it was my test card until I fried it) and boards with i440BX and i815 chipsets.

Some good news at last. The ebay seller turns out to be a Brisbane computer shop and has agreed to replace the board.

Anyone ever seen intel 865 boards with Rubicon caps standard? A couple of big honkers were on this board near the CPU which made me wonder if it might have been worked on before.

The original 865 is actin real squirly now. Almost loads XP then resets.

Might try replacin that row of little yellow sargeants adjacent the CPU:

                  https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=597

They aren't bulging but it's gotta be worth a try.

They are solid polymers 560uF 4V.

Be OK to use 1200uF 6.3V Rubys or would 100uF 10V be a better choice?

Remember reading somewhere you shoulkd double the value of Oscons for replacement by Lytics? Would that apply here or am I reaching?

Hi there! I need some help or piece of advice.

A friend of mine kindly asked me to look into his notebook because I have some necessary experience. It's NM-C221 rev 2. A schematics and a boardview I've already downloaded here. Thanks!

Preface: The notebook was in a professional workshop years ago where some job was done, some bios image was flashed and original backup image was lost. So all this time the notebook has been working using discrete graphics with unknown bios image (but someway compatible, because it was updated by a Lenovo utility).

                    Problem:...

                    MGX7520 onboard graphics problem
                    by giampitt
Hello, I have a problem with this motherboard mgx 7520.
This motherboard is from a pinball (revenge from mars); the problem is with the onboard graphics.
After an inactivity period i can see the post screen but only for more or less one minute, than the screen goes grey, it stay powered on but nothing on the screen. If I use a pci vga card the pc works flawless.
If I let the mobo without power for a while (i think something has to discarge) then the onboard graphics work again but again only for one minute and then grey monitor.
I tried changing the power supply, the...
