    Lenovo Y540-15IRH internal graphics problem

Hi there! I need some help or piece of advice.

A friend of mine kindly asked me to look into his notebook because I have some necessary experience. It's NM-C221 rev 2. A schematics and a boardview I've already downloaded here. Thanks!

Preface: The notebook was in a professional workshop years ago where some job was done, some bios image was flashed and original backup image was lost. So all this time the notebook has been working using discrete graphics with unknown bios image (but someway compatible, because it was updated by a Lenovo utility).

Problem: The notebook won't run if graphics cards settings of BIOS has been switched to internal graphics, settings has been saved and the notebook has restarted. It has been just black screen. This problem the workshop couldn't solve. They just re-flashed bios chip and asked to not switch. A discrete graphics is default option in BIOS.

I've supposed the problem is the bios with not-cleaned ME so I've downloaded a right dump (with cleaned ME) and flashed it. A mainboard with RAM and heatsink has been plugged to power supply (no CMOS or power battery) and to external monitor via HDMI. In the BIOS settings a graphics option has been switched to on-board graphics by myself. I haven't seen any picture on the monitor after it.
To revive the mainboard the BIOS chip (GD25B127D) has been flashed again. GD25B127D is OK and I've seen its ID in BIOS image (Intel Flash Image Tool (FIT) has 'said' about it).

Question: Can wrong BIOS prevent normal work of internal graphics? If it's not what is then? Is it possible at all using on-board graphics to see image on an external monitor via HDMI ? As I've seen in the schematics: HDMI (and also DP USB-C) signals connected right into nvidia chip. On the board there is a eDP-switching chip that switches signal from graphic cards to LCD panel.

    Thank everyone for answers!

This mb will work with discrete only and i dont see any opion in schematic which indicates that its switchable. However, flashing a known good clean me bios should restore the settings to default,i.e discrete.

I would say the schematics shows the only eDP is switchable. I also know for sure that the option is used to be workable on LCD panel until that mentioned incident.
I just remember a desktop technology Lucid Virtu when a customer could use both videocards via one video port. Maybe there is something like that in this model of a laptop, isn't it ?

Re: Lenovo Y540-15IRH internal graphics problem

Recently I tried to switch the graphics again. This time the LCD panel was connected. And it was the same - black screen, no booting. No luck. When I disassembled the laptop I saw a strange spot on a CPU die and a corresponding spot on a heat-sink without thermal grease. I remember for sure that the last time thermal grease was covered evenly all the CPU die. I suppose a local overheating could cause such defect.
The resistance of VCCGFXCORE to GND is about 0.5 Ohm. Is it too low? I guess internal graphics is fail. So I flashed a SPI chip again. There will be no more experiments of switching graphics in this notebook.

Inability to view the Bios with dedicated/discrete graphics card, Lenovo v520 PC, IB250MH VER1.0 motherboard
            by pippostino
Good evening everyone, I have recovered a Lenovo V520 desktop PC, on which I have mounted an NVDIA GF9500GT 512Mb graphics card (and it is not the only one I have tried) to replace the one originally mounted, namely NVIDIA GT730 (Lenovo code FRU01AJ853), I replaced it because it has 2 Display Port outputs that I cannot use, as I don't have such a monitor or DP/VGA converter. The problem: Windows I can see it, but the Lenovo logo or the BIOS/UEFI, not. So I can't enter the Bios. To view the Boot or the Bios, I have to remove the dedicated graphics card and connect to the integrated graphics (therefore...

Lenovo Thinkbook 15 G2 ITL i5 (serial number: MP2BFZEF) bios request
            by Wahaz
            Hello,

I have a Lenovo Thinkbook 15 G2 ITL i5 Laptop (serial number: MP2BFZEF) that when I turn it on, the led on the power button lights up for 5 seconds, then goes out. There's no display and nothing happens.
So I thought it was a Bios problem.
I found 3 bios chips on the board, which I read with a bios programmer: two XMC model bios chips and a Winbond model bios chip. Each XMC model bios chip has two partitions named XM25QH128A [3.3V] and XT25F128A [3.3V]. And the Winbond model bios chip has three partitions named W25Q80BL 3.3V, W25Q80xV 3.3V and W25Q80DV 3.3V....

So a couple of years ago i got a bios update through Lenovo Vantage, so i installed it and bricked my whole BIOS, so i couldn't fix it so i put that ideapad in a box, 3 years later i found that one PC and want to recover it to switch from a 2014 hp laptop to this one.

I found a method to recover the BIOS of many lenovo laptops tha consists in pluging in a USB Flash with the BIOS files and power on the laptop with Fn + R keys pressed until fans go loud and start beeping loud, but nothing worked, so i think filename is wrong, i tried naming the bios file as 07WW.BIN, BIOS.BIN, BIOS.fd,...

Alienware 13R3 bios mod request - to disable dedicated graphics (dgpu failure)
            by Mr.Ultimate
Hi everyone, hope to get someone to help and modify bios rom for me.
I need to disable dedicated nvidia graphics chip permanently.

GPU chip had failed(cracked silicon DIE) and I can only use laptop without failing if I disable nvidia graphics in dev manager (but it still draws power from battery and generates thermal signature.

Ideally if it was disabled from bios at preboot.

I believe it is possible, because if I attatch external alienware graphics amplifier , laptop at boot will disable dedicated graphics #1 (failed one) and will only boot with AGA...
