HD from 1997? meh....had you said 1987 or 1977, then maybe you'd have had some thing. I have an old MFM 5.25 full height around here somewhere...... now THATS a relic!

Ignore lists are unrelated to when and where you can post. it has to do with personal messages.

nothing personal against you, but your posts are hard to read and you seem to have the mentality of a 12 year old. it gets old really fast. your mispelliings look like intentional mispellings meant to make things appear as the are not. just saying how things look from over here.

The one thing that makes old hard drives iffy is the lubrication coating on the platters becomes gooey with age. 1997 still not old enough yet. IIRC, running the drives keeps that stuff from becoming "goo".

                    Re: holley cow 1997 hdd

I've got one fully working 80808 with a full height MFM hard drive and Dos 5.1 on it I think it's a whopping 10 MB! I have another full height two 5.25 drive IBM with no hard drive and GWBasic.

Those old MFM HDDs used a stepper motor to move the read/write heads. Talking about ancient technology then again the density on the platters wasn't as great as on a modern hard drive. Steppers can only move in degrees modern ones can get down to maybe 0.72 of a degree per step. Nowhere near the sensitivity you need with todays tightly packed platters.

Other than a magnetic actuator replacing the stepper motor and higher RPM motors for the platters. When you think about it hard drives haven't really changed since the 80s.

                        so barely 14?

                        starting young I see.

just so you know, you have to act mature on this forum (with occasional exceptions, but those are obvious).

go with the flow of a thread. unless it is an off topic forum's thread, assume maturity is expected. you can be funny but don't be a fool about it.

yes, 14. your 14th birthday was on the 3rd of this month. do you know math or did you flunk that?

2011-1997 is 14. likewise, 2011-1992 is 19, which I will be this saturday.

So here we go. The system featured here is a Power Macintosh 7200/120 computer with a PowerPC 601 CPU and 24MB of RAM. It was built sometime in 1996 and appears to have been in use between 1997 and 2007, with most activity ceasing by 2005.

The system was also ordered with the PC Compatible option, which, in this case, is a 12" long PCI card with an entire PC compatible system on it. It has a 100MHz Pentium (i586) CPU, 8MB or 16MB of onboard RAM, an ATi Mach/64 video card, and a Sound Blaster Vibra16 sound subsystem.

It was checked into a computer repair shop (presumably...

Most that have opened some old consoles or other Japanese devices from the early 90s have probably seen these light blue Rubycon GP caps marked "CE W", like in this Mega Drive example:

Now from what I gathered the actual series name for these is TWSS, since I've not seen the spec sheet on this forum I've attached it for posterity sake, even though it's probably not hugely interesting. Amusingly there's still a ton of Aliexpress listings floating around for Rubyon CE W/TWSS, some...

Motherboard (ZAM70 LA-A901P Dell Latitude E5450) not starting (no short on the main line).
When insert ac plug I have noticed the PU100 is hot, 3.3V is only 1.05V (may vary a bit) and also PD3 is hot.
I firstly removed PC1 (after wrongly mesured a short to ground) => Still PD3 ot.
I replace PC1 (when my mistake discovered) => Still PD3 hot.
I removed PD3 and PR1 (PU100 is fine and I can mesure the 5V and 3.3V correctly), I presume there is a leakage on +RTC_CELL.
So I use BoardViewer 2.0.1.9 (Beta) which is a great tool and cad of ZAM70 LA-A901P...

I tried to transfer my BIOS/Firmware Chip from one PCB Board to another Donor PCB Board. It might be okay and yet it might not be okay. (I'm currently getting it looked at professionally) Let's assume worst case scenario. Is there someone out there that can extract my rom information from my platters and reprogram another chip and get all this working again? The hard drive is in perfect shape and spins up beautifully, I just had a bad pcb board. I know its a long shot but I thought I would ask.

                                        Sincerely,
                                        Idiot
