let's make a bcn one instead lol. toms hardware :-/

hp probook 6555b is a beast. well-made. problems with the firewire because they were too lazy to give me a real one, so they put a sd-card reader/usb/fw ricoh pos attachment. good thing the southbridge is still an ati so i just put in a ti expresscard and my audiofire works lovely.

Sony VAIO VPCY2. Great build quality, not beastly but definitely solid feeling. Magnesium alloy case. Perfect size. No optical drive (that's a big plus in my book). Camera is decent.

The built in card reader and firewire are also ricoh based in this one. Luckily the USB is based off the intel chipset. The crappy ricoh controller is not much of a problem for me because I don't use FW, but it would have been nice to get TI firewire. Card reader works fine, I don't use it very heavily.

yeah, no lappy has TI firewire anymore haha. the expresscard slot is still southbridge, so a simple rosewill ti card fixed that. just avoid using taht special usb port to the side that's controleld by the ricoh lol

Good to know about that USB port. There is one right next to the firewire, I mean, *ahem*, i.Link S400. I'll avoid using that one for anything more than a mouse.

Forgot to mention one of the VAIO's strong points: Atheros (excellent) wireless chip.

lolz ilink. ahh good reception on that eh? mine has broadcom its overpriced but is decent. but there's no support on archlinux or any linux for that manner without stupid things like ndiswrapper (which doesn't even work anymore) /endrant.

Yup, great reception with the Atheros wifi. Even with less-than-optimal signal strength in some parts on campus I still always get a solid connection. Back in the days of 54g PCI wireless cards, I always used Atheros based cards. Ralink and Realtek cards couldn't hold a candle to them! Atheros cards seem to give a solid or at least useable connection even with a shitty weak signal. All of my Atheros cards always worked great under Linux too.

                            To all the members here...

Let me tell you a little bit about what happened to my laptop (MSI GF63 THIN 11UCX model: MS-16R6) that “maybe” you know how to solve this problem.

So before this problem happened, my laptop was running smoothly. When I wanted to restart my laptop, it looked fine at first. But after I waited for this restart process to take a long time, until finally I panicked (because the restart process did not finish plus the laptop screen only showed a black screen), I immediately pressed and held the power button to force the laptop to turn off. But...
