    Smokin' ASUS Wow!

Connected up a board Asus P4B533-VM it has been in storage somewhere a few years I believe , I started it fans turning and man there was sparks and smoke started from the DIMM sockets. Needless to say it didnt BOOT!
Where do I go from here clean out the DIMM sockets? I thought some isopropyl alky and a toothbrush give it a scrub anyone got a better idea?
    Or just frisbee it?

^^^ I'm with him on this one.

Empty DIMM sockets or populated ones?

What is the PSU you used? One that had been working recently, or an old one that was lying about? Could be it's the culprit.

Atleast that asus displayed its problem.....just junk the board. With that kind of damage, its just not worth messing with imo. Most all asus boards have nothing detectably wrong with them, but the heaps of shit just don't work....I see way too many of those.

Ive seen the exact same thing once, but that time it wasn't the boards fault. One of the pads on the ram had come loose and shorted. Surprisingly the board worked fine after i replaced the memory, despite the burned socket.

Hmmmm... looking at the RAM that came out there are scorch marks on the the pins same spacing as the DIMM socket but at the OPPOSITE end???

Yep I say that is what it was by looking at the pins in the dimm socket that are burnt.

Does the board beep with no RAM?

If you put RAM in and it works, that'd be great. If you change those slots and it starts/still works, very impressive.
