    Does higher voltage tolerance mean more robust?

    Where electrolytic capacitors are concerned, when you're replacing them on a board that's say ... 20 years old...

    Let's say we have a 10uF cap that is rated at 25 Volts.

    If I replace that with a 10uF cap that is rated at 50 Volts, would that 50-volt cap be more resilient in terms of longevity and being able to handle more stress than the 25V cap ... assuming the cap will live a normal life and not have any defects throughout its life.

    Does upping the voltage rating of a cap make any difference at in terms of longevity and over all "robustness"?

    It depends on the kind of circuit, and type of cap used. If it's used for power filtering it's usually ok to go fairly higher voltage, but the quality of the cap is also huge factor. Other than that, it depends. Others here should give you a better answer

      If you change within the same series, most likely yes.
      Look at the datasheet, it usually specifies the runtime at operating voltage and temperature and this value in hours often correlates to the size of the capacitor.
      i.e. if you put a capacity of the same series at a higher voltage, its size is probably larger and it is likely to indicate more hours of failure (but not always).

      see the attached picture of Nichicon HE datasheet, it even describes that higher voltage -> more working hours

        This is the zombie UN55NU6900F I wrote about in this original post.

        It originally was completely dead with no standby voltage. After some poking around, I found the solder at RM819 (see pictures) failed. I removed it from the board, it tested fine, resoldered it, and now the TV works.

        The expected standby voltage at the reference pin is specified to be 11.8V but it's reading 12.8V. Couple questions:

        1. What could cause the standby voltage to be 1V higher than expected
        2. Is this a problem
        3. Could it have led to the failure at RM819, or was that...

        Hello friends,

        Looking for some guidance here. The RAM voltage circuit on this motherboard keeps burning out PU301 which is a RT8231AGQW. Copy of the board with the burnt chip attached with some voltage measurements and copy of the schematics also included.

        I think I've checked almost every component in the circuit, but when I change the RT8231, the laptop starts I have 1.2V on the inductor for about 10 seconds and then the RT8231 goes south and no more voltage on the inductor. All other voltages on the laptop are good, this is the only one conking out for a reason I...

        i have Gigabyte Z490 Gaming X Motherboard .it has a power on no display fault .. no vcore voltage and debug led stuck CPU LED .

        VCCIO voltage ok
        VCCSA Voltage OK
        VCCPLL Voltage OK
        Ram Voltage ok
        RamVTT OK
        VPP 2.5 OK

        But No Core Voltage

        Hi Everyone, I am new to this forum. I have a Panasonic LED TV which doesnt turn on and is blinking 4 times repeatedly when I turn on the switch. The TV does not respond to the remote control so I had to turn on using the physical switch on the side of the TV. When I turn on the switch the 4 x blinking starts and repeat itself until I turn off the TV. There is a black screen. I turned off the light in the room to check the panel and I think there is no backlight as far as I can tell.

        I found two capacitors on the board and one of the leads on one capacitor had bad soldering joint and the other joint connections not much better and there were several soldering joints that way to much flux around the joint redid several of them

        The capacitors were a non brand that I did not recognize they got replaced and now it does not oscillating between relay but what concerns me a little bit is when the voltage is a little bit low the output voltage is around 130 volts and then drops down to 115 volts this happens around 105 to 108 volts if remember correctly
