I found a for sure bad cap in my old APC XS1500 UPS, it's a 22uF 400V 105deg electrolytic (CapX branded). Getting that exact value seems expensive, is there a another value I could get away with that's more readily available? It seems to be one of the main caps in the charging circuit (the part of the UPS that's malfunctioning).

Always meet or exceed the WVDC rating. Highest temperature rating you can afford (in a particular case size). You can also look at the durability rating (hours) for the device if its a PITA to replace (i.e., push the next expected failure date further out into the future).
If the cap is just being used to store charge (filter), then larger is usually safer.
[No doubt your cap sits on the rectified mains]

You can go higher (e.g. 47uF@400V) as least as the diode bridge is decently sized.
A Chemi-Con KXL is suitable for that purpose and its diameter will fit as it is a miniaturized series. It should not cost more than the price pointed out by R_J..

I have a klipsch kda-500 that would turn on and allow me to get into the web management but it was picking up a lot of noise from audio sources so i decided to replace the smd caps on the power supply along with radial one. Some one was in here before me and they basically burned the bottom side of the traces off for the radial cap but i was able to repair it without any real problem. I thought i did a good job sourcing out replacement caps but apparently not and now i can't get the power supply to turn on it just constantly try's to keep turning on. I am not sure where exactly to put this thread, so hopefully this is the best place.
I have a USB fan that has suddenly been unable to increase its speed. It's just stuck on the first speed. This fan has 3 speed settings. Each time you press the power button, the speed of the fan should increase.
The way the button works with each press is: Speed 1 > Speed 2 > Speed 3 > OFF
Speed 2 and 3 don't currently work any more.
I suspect the issue might be with what looks to be some kind of driver IC. It is a 16-pin... -

My 7 channel NAD receiver has audio quality and volume issues on 2 of the channels. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. Sometimes they're at about half the dB level of the left channels, and then they cut out entirely. Powering off and on the receiver fixes it for a bit.
Without much experience to really know for certain, they only apparent issue I can see is with these electrolytic capacitors on the power supply. Bulging = bad, correct? I'm looking for replacements but I'm unsure what leeway I have with the temp ratings. Are there any other specifications I need to worry... -
Just had a customer bring in a M2 MBA A2681 that had had a screen replacement in April at another repairer. Since then, she has been getting intermittent kernel panics. It's an aftermarket screen, and of course it fails in diagnostics as the calibration hasn't been done. The error in the panic log is "No device added after powering on the rails".
It seems the original repairer has swapped the board and the screen to other MAC's, and said that it isn't a screen issue. From what I understand, by doing a quick search on Google, this is in fact a screen issue. The panic relates...07-31-2025, 08:37 PM
