    Starcap battery-cap replacement?

I'm looking to confirm the type of a capacitor, if it is indeed a capacitor.

This Starcap "battery-cap" thing looks like a button battery but is labeled with what appear to be capacitor values.

It has leaked some crusty stuff out along the edge. I cleaned it up with some rubbing alcohol but some of the crust can still be seen along the edge in the top right of the photo.

It is in a consumer electronics device that has been in use for 9 years.

    It is labeled;
    Starcap
    0.22F (note, not "uF")
    5.5v
    DC +70C

What is this thing and what might be a good replacement?

    Re: Starcap battery-cap replacement?

It's called a supercapacitor or ultracapacitor.
Used instead of a battery for things like RTC and the likes.
They have quite poor lifetimes and often leak.
If the device does not require a good clock or whatever the capacitor is used for you could just replace it with a regular electrolytic: thus saving the trouble of having it leak again...

If not then this category should give you an idea what to look for:

      It's a super capacitor

      It's 0.22F or 220mF ... 5.5v

You can replace it with anything of that voltage rating or higher, and a capacitance value close to that value or higher. It's basically there pretty much to power a ram chip or something that keeps some settings for some time, until the unit is plugged again (and then power supply takes over and refills the super capacitor)

      Here's options: https://www.digikey.com/short/pphqpf

Pretty much any of them would work, but you'd probably want one that sits flat like the one in your picture. You have that capacitor near the super cap, so probably you could put there capacitors mounted vertically but double check that.

Capacitor detached from PCB – RTX 2070 Super Founders Edition

        Title:
Capacitor detached from PCB – RTX 2070 Super Founders Edition

        Description:
During maintenance on an RTX 2070 SUPER Founders Edition, I found a capacitor lying on my desk after reassembly.
I did not notice it detaching, so I am unsure of its original location on the PCB.

        Procedure performed:
        - Removed backplate
        - Cleaned heatsink and PCB with isopropyl alcohol + soft ESD brush
        - Reapplied thermal compound
        - Reassembled card

        Observed behavior after reassembly:
        - GPU powers on and operates normally under...

Blew the capacitor on my analytical balance scale using the wrong power adapter. I need help finding a replacement compatible capacitor to buy. Will any 100uf 40v capacitor work as a replacement?

klipsch kda-500 amplifier suitable power supply capacitor replacement ?
        by r2digital
I have a klipsch kda-500 that would turn on and allow me to get into the web management but it was picking up a lot of noise from audio sources so i decided to replace the smd caps on the power supply along with radial one. Some one was in here before me and they basically burned the bottom side of the traces off for the radial cap but i was able to repair it without any real problem. I thought i did a good job sourcing out replacement caps but apparently not and now i can't get the power supply to turn on it just constantly try's to keep turning on. Attached is a picture of the power supply before...

        Discontinued Capacitor looking for Replacement
        by rwkish
Capacitor has been discontinued (EGXF101ELL331MM20S) all of the replacements I have found have are smaller than 0.709" Dia (18.00mm). I would like to use the same size or at least close to the same size Capacitor. 19mm would be too big as they would touch and not be able to through hole mount. Tia...

        Replacement capacitor options please?
        by Hylax
Hi, I'm super new to this capacitor stuff but I've some basic soldering experience with old cellphones PCBs and headphones. I have this APAQ AR5K 820∆μF 3V Dc Capacitor from a motherboard that I'm looking to replace, photos I've attached. But I'm unable to find a 3V one like I've marked in the spec sheet in red (This is the one currently present in the motherboard). But the 6.3V one I can find (marked in blue) is of similar dimensions but different specs as mentioned in the table. Is it okay to replace it with higher voltage cap, slightly higher ESR, slightly lower ripple current, and double...
