Monitor powers up but report No Signal

I have a 15" LCD monitor which I have been holding on to for over a year now. It worked perfectly when I bought it second hand but suddenly after relocated the PC it stopped working. It powers up but always reports "no signal" then enters power management mode, as if the VGA cable is not plugged in.

I always in my gut suspected it was fixable so kept it in storage. It helped it has an Elo Touchscreen which are quite expensive.

Knowing this site, my first instinct is that recapping may simply bring it back to life. One of the caps appears to have been damaged since day one, presumably while applying the positive lead for the touch screen. It obviously did not stop it working but perhaps contributed to an early death.

The problem is, the only tools I have are 30W soldering iron, some solder, solder sucker and a multimeter. An ESR meter is out of the question, they are too expensive when there are no guarantees I can fix the problem. I probably will pickup a better multimeter with capacitance testing though.

Any suggestions? It looks surface mount which is probably why I was reluctant to try fixing it when it first died. Its pre-ROHS so perhaps 30W will be enough to do the job? I may possibly be able to get a new soldering iron too but do not want the expense if I can avoid it.

      check the easy stuff first.
since it happened when you moved it the top suspects are cable/connector damage and bad solder joints.onc it works again the recap is just p.m

The PSU plug is in a real bad way, pretty much falling apart. However the connection on it seems alright and with the screen basically powering up but not detecting a signal, I suspect its fine.

I was considering perhaps I should try for a replacement but it might be hard to find as its a weird 4 pin one and actually the one supplied is HP brand so clearly was not the original one to begin with.

As there only seems to be those three caps above 100uF it seems a good place to start. The problem is I do not really know what to replace them with. Are they normal or low ESR? Would it hurt to replace them with low ESR even if they weren't originally?

Also monitor flickered with NO SIGNAL 10 seconds after shutdown. So only monitor and pc was affected.

Next i pressed only power button, rebooted again and its fine again. Happened once and i cant reproduce.

Dell monitor PSU vs Dell laptop PSU
          by keepread
          Hi there!
Someone gave me their old monitor, it's Dell S2715ht.
The owner was using it when his PSU began to smell and then to smoke. It literally began to melt. He turned the monitor off, pulled the PSU, and ditched it because it was smelly even after it cooled. So I got the monitor but not the plug.
Now, I tried to bring the monitor back to life, by plugging one of my many Dell laptop PSUs. They are of the same 19.5V, and the wattage of the laptop PSU is higher than that which the monitor is rated for. Visually, the socket on the monitor seems compatible, and the plug plugs...

Requesting Help For GA-970A-DS3 rev. 1.0, No Post code, no RSMRST# signal
          by AstutePauciloquent
Hi everyone, over the past few months i have taken a deep dive into motherboard diagnostics and I love the challenge. Currently im trying to learn all about the signals that travel around the motherboard, such as frequencies, enable signals High and Low logic states etc. And i have been learning to read and using the Schematics for this board that i requested here on Badcaps forum, from a few months ago, this is such a great place for these.

I’ve been working on a GA-970A-DS3 (rev. 1.0) that does not post. This motherboard has been my main learning board. I would like share...

LG 23MP55HQ LED Monitor turns off after a few seconds or flickers.
          by Rick_1234
          Good evening, gentlemen.

I have a problem with my monitor. It turns off after a few seconds or flickers. Shining a flashlight on the screen doesn't show any image, so I guess it's not the "2 seconds to dark" I read in the forum.

To turn it back on, I have to press the power button twice. Then after a few seconds it turns off again or flickers. See video.

          Samsung synchmaster 226BW.

Before I replaced 5 caps, the screen was dim.
          Sometimes it wouldn't turn on.

I opened it up, and found 4 bad caps in the pwr supply section.

I unfortunately installee one backwards, i.e. wrong polarity.

When I turned it on, I head a loud pop, and I quickly shut it off.

          The replaced caps are 3 860uF 25V's, and 1 330u 35V.
          One of the 860uF blew.

I didn't have another 860uF at home, so I tried it with a 1000uF 35V cap (I remember the reading of the 1k uF cap was close...
