What? No videos showing us the magic smoke?

  • Re: Monitor powers up but report No Signal

The PSU plug is in a real bad way, pretty much falling apart. However the connection on it seems alright and with the screen basically powering up but not detecting a signal, I suspect its fine.

I was considering perhaps I should try for a replacement but it might be hard to find as its a weird 4 pin one and actually the one supplied is HP brand so clearly was not the original one to begin with.

As there only seems to be those three caps above 100uF it seems a good place to start. The problem is I do not really...

  • Re: Recap a single bad cap?

Strange, I thought motherboards with 24pin ATX were mandatory to use 24pin PSU?

    I'm pretty sure mine was.

I am clueless what I should be looking for if I am going to replace those caps. Any suggestions?

  • Monitor powers up but report No Signal

I have a 15" LCD monitor which I have been holding on to for over a year now. It worked perfectly when I bought it second hand but suddenly after relocated the PC it stopped working. It powers up but always reports "no signal" then enters power management mode, as if the VGA cable is not plugged in.

I always in my gut suspected it was fixable so kept it in storage. It helped it has an Elo Touchscreen which are quite expensive.

Knowing this site, my first instinct is that recapping may simply bring it back to life. One of the caps appears to have been...

  • Re: Antec 480W "NEO" PSU with Fuhjyyu caps

Id just like to report that Antec seem to be improving.

They have recalled the SmartPower range of PSUs due to faulty caps (although from what I have read pretty much all their previous PSUs have the same problem, Fuhjyyu caps).
Of course theres no mention anywhere that they are being recalled, I only found out because my SP-450 blew and I contacted them for a return mentioning I also had an SP-350 and had read they had problems. They replaced both PSUs with ones from their latest range, the EarthWatts....

  • Re: Chaintech 7AJA2

Thankyou thats super helpful (guess thats the super in super moderator?).
I also see now how RS list "low impedance" in the title, I didn't notice that before.
I will have a go repairing the Chaintech with these and see how it goes.

How important is the temperature rating, seeing as these caps most DEFINATELY wont be subject to such high temperatures.

  • Re: Chaintech 7AJA2

I know its a long shot but do you know what caps it has that need replacing without me having to dissasemble the machine? Its currently in use and would be a REAL pain.

Also, sites such as rswww.com have MUCH too many capacitors, I have no clue what im looking for in order for it to be the right tolerance vs cost effective. For example I was looking for 2200uf capacitors for the Chaintech (I want to try that first as its already dead and even better, not currently in a case) but theres TONS, some would work out more expensive than buying a new...

  • Re: Chaintech 7AJA2

I actually had to replace this board with an E model I had but that one doesnt like the Duron much that im using in it. It could very well be that THAT board is failing due to caps too though as I bought the E first, its certainly running games a LOT slower than the above board did before it died.

Incidentally, I also have an ECS K7S5A which runs fine apart from the onboard sound (the bass drops out when you turn the volume up). However a friend is taking it to University with him so I don't really have time to worry about recapping it as I want...

  • Re: Jetway V6DP

Thanks all, it confirms what I feared - that the CPU ones are bulging a little and I can't expect any better from the others either. Fortunately those photos show the majority of the caps so its not too many to replace, though I certainly do not find the prospect appealing none the less.

I will have to get the board out and check the values on those caps then pay a friendly visit to rswww.com, unless anyone knows of a better place in the UK for them. Id see if I could pull some off another board but I wouldnt know if they were any better.

    started a topic Jetway V6DP

    Jetway V6DP

Heres another board I have, I got this off e-bay so when I found this site I had the sudden inclination to check the caps. Im not sure about the ones next to the CPU socket, are they raising a little or do they normally look like that?...

Are the caps likely to be the cause of the problem for this board?

It just suddenly stopped POSTing, it might have been underpowered on the PSU as I hadnt realised the PSU was only rated at about 130W....
