Re: another stupid polymer question (can going REALLY high ripple be bad?)

I've almost never had an issue getting x86 apps working in the hybrid environment except for really old ones.

I've been playing fo:nv again with very few issues all dlcs and several mods. Fo3 did have crashing problems but it always has for me

I think what happened after the release of vista and it's hybrid is they made software not exclusively 64-bit, but made x86 compatible software for the hybrid environment. So it works in the x86/64 environment as well as the plain x86, and they didn't have to make two versions

But that was then, x86 is being phased out, and will go the way of 16-bit dos not too long from now

Of course, like with my customer who builds qbasic programs, there is always dosbox, or some other solution

      Unlikely.

There are still too many companies that run older browsers and apps. Also one of the reasons why FF ESR exists. And even when 32-bit software "dies", it would be just the browsers.

Most websites don't actually have anything that cares whether your PC is 64-bit or 32-bit, aside from a few that use specific security protocols. That said, unfortunately many sites now do check what browser version you use (and sometimes OS version too). If they don't like it, they may not display (or like the majority, give you annoying nagging messages and disable site features, even if your PC is perfectly capable of running everything). I had a medical patient portal tell me recently that I can't access if because Windows XP machines are not allowed to connect to the site, even though my browsers was fairly up to date and I've used this portal about 6 months prior without issue. I went onto a Windows 7 PC with the same 32-bit browser versions as the one on my XP machine, and everything worked fine. But unfortunately, most people hear "Windows XP" or "outdated OS" and they panic, thinking it's not secure only because it's old. The fact is that NO OS is secure, and it's up to the user to exercise caution and be aware of what's running on their PC to keep it secure.

DosBox is not a solution. It's a wimpy workaround. It does work, but not for everything. If you're into that old stuff, then at the end of the day, you just get an old system and use that instead.

        Should I replace polymer capacitor?
        by chth96
a few days ago I finally purchased mser-100 v2 and I tested its abillity of measuring ESR value.
I found that It shows pretty accurate ESR value for electrolytic capacitor,But When I measure polymer capacitor of dreamcast game console,I found that one third of polymer capacitor's ESR value is more than twice the value of ESR meter table.(for example, I measured one polymer capacitor of 6.3v 100uf, It showed ESR value of 7.68)
Although my dreamcast now turns 20 years old but it still works. I occasionally have played game with it.
Is this ESR value of polymer capacitor correct?...

Dell Optiplex GX260 - Advice Needed for Polymodding Motherboard
        by SwedishDiesel
        Howdy folks,

I have an Optiplex GX260 that blew a couple of those troublesome Nichicon HM series (ultra low ESR) electrolytic capacitors. Because said caps are obsolete, they are pretty much impossible to find on the market; I did find a listing for some but I believe they are counterfeit. I feel the easiest thing to do would be to replace all the blown caps with polymer ones. I am by no means an expert in electronics, and I've found a fair bit of conflicting information, so any guidance or confirmation would be greatly appreciated. While from a practical standpoint it's not worth...

Is it no harm to replace with capacitor without ripple current rating?
        by chth96
When I tried to repair LG 29 inch CRT TV, I found that the ESR value of samyoung SMS capacitor(160v 2.2uf), which is very close to D1879 transistor, is 6 ohm.

Judging from above ESR Meter Table,I think It is necessary to replace this sms capacitor. So I visited local electronics shop, and I purchased 160v 2.2uf rubycon YK capacitor.
But when I browse through rubycon YK datasheet,I found that there is no ripple current rating for 160v 2.2uf specification. But On the contrary, I found 39 mA ripple current rating for 160v 2.2uf SMS capacitor.
        Rubycon YK DataSheet (b...

Is there any high current pouch battery that are size 60mmX80mm maximum thickness 21mm for a battery operated tab welder
        by sam_sam_sam
I have a battery operated tab welder and the battery does not have enough current for the battery tab welder because after about 30 welded it does not have the same current output it voltage has gone down by at least 0.500 volts or maybe a more than that

I can fit 21700 battery cells in the enclosure it is very tight fit for four of them that are 35 amp high current capacity 35X4=140 high current output this should work a lot better than what is installed right now

I tested the battery cells there are installed right now and they are testing good with no issues that I...

What are typical ripple voltages on a laptop motherboard?
        by Antonynl
I have here a HP pavilion hp 15-cs2975nd with a 1.095v power supply that is driven by a FDMF3035. I do see about 80mV of ripple on my scope. I searched through the datasheet to find possible values of the ripple but I don't understand the datasheet well enough.

        So I have two questions:
        1) what is the typical ripple voltages of gpu/cpu on a laptop or pc mobo?
        2) what would be the max ripple of a FDMF3035 that drives an output of 1.095V?

Would be nice to have a rule of thumb of say a percentage of the supply voltage to be an acceptable ripple voltage....
