    Imac Capacitor Question

I just got an 17" Imac G5, not intel. I have a 20" Imac G5 that I already replaced the caps on and it is working perfect. The 20" had around 5 1000uf 16v caps and 20 1800uf 6.3v caps.

The 17" I just got is very flakey and will shutdown before loading OSX and *sometimes* the screen has vertical lines in it. I took a look at the caps and every single cap is 1800uf 6.3v. Also there are a few caps that are a little higher than the rest. So I am kind of thinking the motherboard has already been recapped and the person who recapped it didn't replace the 5 1000uf caps with the correct rated caps.

Now here is the question. Do the 17" imacs only use 1800uf 6.3v caps? Or should there be some 1000uf 16v caps in there? Could this be the problem with the Imac?

All of the caps look good no bulging or leaking but I don't really want to go though the effort of replacing the caps unless I have reason to believe they are the problems.

    Re: Imac Capacitor Question

Search for imac on the forums. IIRC several people have listed what they used to recap theirs. Check the PSU on that too. Many problems with units from 2005.

Capacitor detached from PCB – RTX 2070 Super Founders Edition

      Title:
Capacitor detached from PCB – RTX 2070 Super Founders Edition

      Description:
During maintenance on an RTX 2070 SUPER Founders Edition, I found a capacitor lying on my desk after reassembly.
I did not notice it detaching, so I am unsure of its original location on the PCB.

      Procedure performed:
      - Removed backplate
      - Cleaned heatsink and PCB with isopropyl alcohol + soft ESD brush
      - Reapplied thermal compound
      - Reassembled card

      Observed behavior after reassembly:
      - GPU powers on and operates normally under...

Seasonic B12 BC-550 – barely 2 years old and with BAD CAPS already!
      by momaka
I know I've been a little scarce lately (like the last 2-3 years), but I'm still here and still doing my thing with fixing PSUs.

For today's considerations, I have a Seasonic B12 BC-550 [A551bcafh] 550 Watt ATX power supply for you (click on links for full size images).

It's a modern ATX unit with fixed (non-modular) cables and an 80-plus bronze certificate. Here's the label:

      Help with capacitors

Hey, im fixing a imac logic board that has a damaged capacitor. The original capacitor says: 947 Sepc 270 16. I have looked through board viewer and traced it to the correct values: 270uf, 16v. Just as the original capacitor says. I cant find a direct replacement online for this capacitor. I have 239 Sepc 270 16 capacitors laying around, and compared to the original it's smaller. But is also 16v, 270uf. Can i replace it with this one? I cant really find specifications for them. Thanks

Dell Optiplex GX260 - Advice Needed for Polymodding Motherboard
      by SwedishDiesel
      Howdy folks,

I have an Optiplex GX260 that blew a couple of those troublesome Nichicon HM series (ultra low ESR) electrolytic capacitors. Because said caps are obsolete, they are pretty much impossible to find on the market; I did find a listing for some but I believe they are counterfeit. I feel the easiest thing to do would be to replace all the blown caps with polymer ones. I am by no means an expert in electronics, and I've found a fair bit of conflicting information, so any guidance or confirmation would be greatly appreciated. While from a practical standpoint it's not worth...

New capacitor technology - high lifetime caps
      by clearchris
I'm getting ready to put in a capacitor order. I generally look for nichicon, panny, kemet, or united chemicon, and I'm noticing that there aren't any 1000 hour caps anymore, and not many 2000 hour caps. Most of the caps are rated around 5000 hours or better. Last time I ordered, 1000 hour caps were pretty much most of them, and the very few 10,000 hour caps had pretty bad specs.

So what's the deal, have we made major progress with capacitor reliability in the past few years? Are these high lifetime caps ok to use? It's not that I wouldn't welcome the change, I really would, I'm...
